YesAsia Editorial Description

The very prolific Patrick Kong's latest is a romantic comedy that's more earnest than the director's usual comedic offerings. One of Hong Kong's top comedic actors, Wong Cho Lam (The Midas Touch) stars as So Bo Wing (a.k.a. So Boring), a sad sack who has to deal with a terrible boss (the legendary Michael Hui), a "best friend" who frequently gets him into trouble (Alex Fong, Hello Babies) and a mother who tries to wring every last penny from him (Yuen Qiu, I Love Wing Chun). The only thing that's remotely good in his life is his sweet-natured but simple girlfriend Bobo (Ivana Wong, Golden Chickensss).

One day, So Boring gets the power to delete anyone he doesn't like and replace them with a better alternative. He goes on a deleting spree, deleting everyone who annoys him, including Bobo. However, he soon finds that life without Bobo isn't as great as he thought it'd be.

Patrick Kong gets weird Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
"Delete My Love" is among the oddest movies I've seen in a great while. Wong Cho Lam stars as the clownishly-garbed So Boring, who works at a company where his coworkers detest him and steal his ideas, his domineering boss (Michael Hui) is ready to fire him, and his exceptionally annoying assistant (Chan Ka Kai) is willing to sell him out for a compliment. His hypochondriacal girlfriend (Ivana Wong), when not agonizing over the state of her health, is willing to abandon him when an old boyfriend manipulates her emotions. The efforts of pal (Alex Fong) to help So Boring only make things worse for him. And his mother and sister scheme about how to grab his money. Could things possibly get worse for this sad-sack nebbish?

Out of the blue, So Boring finds a magical new app on his smartphone which allows him to turn all these people who make his life miserable into new versions of themselves. He starts by morphing his boss into a positive, friendly guy who wants the workplace to be a non-stop party (Michael Wong), mother and sister get changed into models of good behavior, his pal turns into a knock-off of Tony Stark of "Iron Man" fame, and his girlfriend changed into a shapely bombshell (Daniella Wang). Now surrounded by a new supporting cast, will So Boring live happily ever after?

The knowledge that this is a film from uber-cynical director Patrick Kong should disabuse one of that notion. No, in fact, the new cast of characters turns out to be an even bigger nightmare for poor So Boring. Having gotten what he'd sought, can he now change things back? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

When attempting to described the theme of "Delete My Love", Patrick Kong, in a trailer for the film, issues a stream of empty platitudes. The theme might be expressed simply as "Be careful what you wish for" or perhaps "Count your blessings". Unfortunately, the film's handling of its magical plot device is inconsistent and its cartoonish central character is difficult to embrace. Consequently, it left me more puzzled than entertained.
