The country-hopping, mystery-solving adventures continue in Detective Chinatown 3, the third film in Chen Sicheng's blockbuster buddy detective comedy series starring Wang Baoqiang and Liu Haoran. Released during the 2021 Chinese New Year holidays, Detective Chinatown 3 set a global box office record with the biggest ever opening weekend in a single territory. It went on to storm into China's top five films of all time with a gross over 4.5 billion yuan. Wang Baoqiang and Liu Haoran return as bumbling detective duo Tangren and Qin Feng, who head to Tokyo for this installment. They are joined by an eye-popping all-star cast that includes Tony Jaa, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Nagasawa Masami, Sometani Shota, Asano Tadanobu, Miura Tomokazu and Suzuki Honami. In addition, many familiar faces from the Detective Chinatown universe appear in the film, like Wendy Zhang from the first film, Xiao Yang from the second film, and Roy Chiu, Janine Chang, Chen Zheyuan, Cheng Xiao and Victor Ma from the web series.
