Fox spirits infiltrate the palace in the Chinese period fantasy series Beauties in the Closet. Based on the novel Yan Zhi Zui by Shui He, the Tang Dynasty-set drama stars Vic Chou as Emperor Wenzong, and Hu Bingqing (The Legend of Dugu) and Sebrina Chen (Wu Xin: The Monster Killer) as foxes who take human form. Also co-starring Han Dong, Chen Ruoxuan and Zuo Xiaoqing, Beauties in the Closet adds a mythological twist to the popular palace intrigue genre.

During his brief reign, Emperor Jingzong indulged in pleasures and game, in particular fox hunting. The large-scale expansion of the Lishan palace further threatened the home and survival of the fox race. As a result, the fox race developed great fear and enmity against humans, especially the royal family. Amongst the fox spirits, two factions emerged, one advocating war and revenge against the royals and one advocating peace and co-existence. Each faction sends a representative to carry out the mission of stopping the palace expansion and the killing of foxes. The pro-war faction secretly sends Huang Qingfeng (Hu Bingqing) while the pro-peace faction sends Hu Feiying (Sebrina Chen). The two foxes take human form, enter the palace and get close to Jingzong's brother and successor, Wenzong (Vic Chou), who is already dealing with power struggle and factional politics in the court.
