　　二叔爾志強打小被父母稱為“犟驢”，12歲父母雙亡後，跟著哥嫂長大。在大哥爾志剛這盤比較規整的磨上磨了10年，也沒磨出個方圓來。

　　二叔闖了大禍。大哥一家的幸福驟然間毀在了他的手裡。

　　二叔的心涼到了底。看著大嫂悲戚的神情，看著幾個侄兒侄女突然陌生甚至仇恨的眼神，他驚慌失措，萬念俱灰。

　　二叔不想去上學了，大嫂告訴他，這學必須上，否則對不起父母和大哥。二叔恨不得打自己幾取光！

　　二叔找到向他投石子的仇人，幾個人打了起來，結果把人打成重傷，正趕上嚴打，二叔入獄，被判刑五年。

　　二叔出獄，曉薇沒來接他，他看到的是大嫂和幾個長大的孩子。大嫂對二叔一如既往，孩子對二叔依然生分。二叔提出搬出去住，大嫂不依，說二叔永遠是這個家的人，永遠是孩子們的二叔。二叔的眼睛陣陣發熱。

　　曉薇在中學教書，一直不來會二叔，而鄰居的女兒鄭寶珠卻對二叔單相思，熱乎的不行。二叔沒有工作，又不願意吃閑飯，更何況他在大哥坟前發過誓，要養活這個家，要把孩子們培養成人……
