Father to Son (2018)
Hsiao Ya Chuan (Taipei Exchanges) won Best Director at the 20th Taipei Film Awards for his exploration of the deep and complicated bonds between father and son in his third feature Father to Son. Produced by Hou Hsiao Hsien, the film stars Michael Huang (The Gathering), Kaiser Chuang (Who Killed Cock Robin), Fu Meng Po (My Egg Boy), Aria Wang (Fantasies Behind the Pearly Curtain) and Lu Hsueh Feng (Thanatos, Drunk). Father to Son's story reflects not only the experiences of one family but also the course of Taiwan history. Includes director's commentary, trailer, music video and production featurette.

For the past 50 years, Van Pao Te (Michael Huang) has been haunted by the absence of the father who abandoned him. His father left for Japan to seek new opportunities and never contacted him again. There was a time years ago when Pao Te himself also wanted to throw caution to the wind and chase after his dreams, but he eventually chose to stay in his small town and be a responsible father to his son. Now 60 years old and seriously ill, Pao Te suddenly decides to go to Japan with his son (Fu Meng Po) and seek answers about his long-lost father.

Mirror Image (2000)
Produced by Hou Hsiao Hsien, Hsiao Ya Chuan's debut feature Mirror Image was screened at the 2001 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and won Best Film at the 2000 Taipei Film Festival. Due to a car accident, Tung Ching (Lee Jiunn Jye) loses the palm lines on his right hand, including the life line. Nurse Eiko (Ivy Fan) tells him that means he is no longer constricted by fate. Three months later, Tung Ching's father is hospitalized because of a stroke, and Tung Ching is forced to take over the family pawn shop. His fate continues to change as he re-encounters Eiko and becomes involved with a certain female customer (Era Wang).
