YesAsia Editorial Description

Superstar funnyman Stephen Chow scored one of his biggest hits with Forbidden City Cop, a hilarious costume comedy set in Ancient China! Stephen Chow is Ling Ling Fat, an Imperial agent whose inventive genius and lack of actual kung-fu skills makes him initially unpopular with the Emperor (Cheung Tat Ming). But Fat's way with inventions gives him an edge on the invaders from the Gum province. The bad guys send numerous deadly assassins after the Emperor, only to be repelled by Fat's engineering know-how! Fat becomes a hero of China, and the Emperor's most trusted spy. But can Fat - and his marriage to wife Carina Lau - withstand the charms of stunning prostitute Gum Tso (Carman Lee)? Directors Vincent Kok and Stephen Chow deliver parodies of the James Bond series, earlier Stephen Chow films, and the classic swordplay heroes of Hong Kong Cinema history, with hilarious and wildly entertaining results! Drop-dead funny set pieces and classic comic moments abound in Forbidden City Cop, a crowd-pleasing Hong Kong movie that's one of Stephen Chow's most popular works!

great film poor disc Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
This film is excellent, but the blu ray disc is a disgrace! Kam and robson seem to source there movie prints from fortune star on classic films such as this. Its hard to believe that all the fortune star back catalogue can be in such poor condition as all the kam and robson discs would make it seem. This is easily the worst blu ray i have ever seen. It even looks worse than police story did. Clearly no effort has been made to remaster these movies since the dvd releases. They suffer from a multitude of flecks and lines which is simply not good enough.

More great spoofs Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
What made this movie enjoyable for me were the spoofs even as miniscule as one scene from other movies & it all melded together in that method-to-his-madness kind of way Stephen Chow has. I don't think this is one of his best but certainly is one not to miss. A lover of quirky Canton humor probably wouldn't miss this for anything anyway. (has similar feel to the spoofs & story telling as Royal Tramp I & II)

hilarious Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
i remembered watching this movie when i was young, and i remembered some scenes but forgot most of the things in the movie. i recently re-watched it and i was just laughing from beginning to end! without a doubt this is the best stephen chow movie ever!! i choose this over Shaolin Soccer and Kungfu Hustle (which i didnt find that funny) any day. i can't believe all the funny parts were just so creative and funny!!

Excellent movie Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
The is a wonderful, funny, ingenious movie that will keep you grinning from ear to ear. While Stephen Chau is excellent as ever, the two female co-stars were equally talented and far prettier to look at. Most impressive was the actress who played his wife, who convincingly portrayed emotions of happiness to despair and stole the movie for me. This is definitely a great film to watch.
