An adaptation of Ye Guangqin's novels, Generation of Dignity starring Sun Honglei, Wei Zi, Chen Shu and Zhan Xiaonan is set against the chaotic times of 1920s China when an elite attempts to change the face of the nation with Western influences from his overseas education.

American-educated He Futang (Sun Honglei) returns to his native land of China in hopes of rebuilding his beloved hometown. Instead he witnesses his father being maliciously framed by landlord Liu Qingfu and his son-in-law Wei Zhengxian (Wei Zi). To get revenge, He even marries into the Liu family to bring them down from the inside. Wei, however, survives and returns years later to get his payback by leading an army to attack He's hometown. After going through years of hatred, life, death and political instability, He walks into a different era as his nation progresses under the wheels of time.

　　上世紀三十年代，從美國賓夕法尼亞大學建築學碩士畢業的何輔堂，回到川陝邊界的老家——風雷鎮，欲重新建設家鄉，一展人生宏圖。卻不料剛到家，就親眼目睹了自己的父親被地主劉慶幅及其大女婿魏正先所害。

　　突遭人生變故的何輔堂為了報得父仇，不惜設苦肉計入贅劉家，最終成功鏟除了惡霸風雷鎮數十年的劉慶福與魏正先，報了父仇。同時也為風雷鎮鏟狳了一方毒瘤。

　　完成大事後的何輔堂帶了一眾情同手足的兄弟投奔了盤踞一方的王三春，憑借著自己的勇氣與智慧，何輔堂在王三春手下扶搖直上，成為其心腹之人。出身貧寒、支持紅軍的何輔堂在黑虎山私放紅軍過境一事，讓他與王三春結下了梁子，最終導致與王三春的火拼。

　　但令何輔堂萬萬沒有想到的是，當年被自己所“殺”的魏正先并沒有死，魏正先在死裡逃生之後以西安教育局乾事的名義行事，一直試圖復仇何輔堂……

　　魏正先不依不饒，準備自己前往風雷鎮打探何輔堂的消息，但是礙於新婚妻子程立雪的百般要求，只得帶著她以視察教育的名義一同前往。不料中途遭遇王三春的伏擊，程立雪被縛，魏正先逃脫。

　　幸而何輔堂破了王三春的最後一點人馬，生擒了王三春，同時也將程立雪帶回了風雷鎮。

　　魏正先得知此事，對手何輔堂的恨更添一層，甚至為了讓何輔堂得不到程立雪，向程立雪寄出自己精心所制的毒信，這一封封毒信最終讓程立雪深陷重毒，回天無力……

　　魏正先報仇之心不死，慫恿胡宗南的十萬炮團攻打風雷鎮，要將風雷鎮一舉轟平，徹底毀了何輔堂的一生心血，何輔堂知道這一次自己是逃不過了，已經死心與風雷鎮一起成為炮灰。最後時刻，何輔堂的生死之交鄒七用解放軍的佯動，牽制了胡宗南的炮團，使得風雷鎮和何輔堂逃過一劫，也讓魏正先感到絕望。

　　風雷鎮迎來解放，何輔堂放下一切，歸老山林。魏正先秘密潛入風雷鎮，企圖最後親自殺了何輔堂，不想三槍未打中何輔堂，反被一耕農用鋤頭打死，一世恩怨就此了結。

　　何輔堂孑然一身，經歷了情感的波折、生死的考驗、時代的變遷、國家與民族的解放事業，他也走進了一個全新的時代。
