Comedy king Stephen Chow stars in Hail the Judge, a send-up of the popular Judge Pao stories that have been adapted numerous times to television and movies. Stephen Chow is Judge Pao's corrupt descendant, a money-grubbing Imperial judge who'll trade justice for cash. But he has a change of heart when rape victim Sharla Cheung Man is framed for the murder of her entire family. Chow comes to her aid, but is pursued by the local magistrates for his corruption. It isn't until he befriends the Emperor, and perfects the "martial art of cursing" that he can bring justice back to his name! Wong Jing directs an all-star cast, including Richard Ng Man Tat, Christy Chung, Elvis Tsui, Lawrence Ng and Ada Choi, who lend welcome support to the hilarious antics of Stephen Chow, who turns in one of his most snarky, wicked performances. The comedian's rapid-fire delivery and droll comic antics are on brilliant display in Hail the Judge, especially during the martial arts cursing sequences!

One of his Great Movies Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Although a non cantonese speaking westerner, I found this to be one of Stephen's funniest and best movies. True it took about 3 viewings to get a handle on what was going on, but it got funnier with each viewing including the word-play jokes that probably only a native speaker can fully appreciate. The story can 'travel' in the international sense as it concerns a corrupt judge who gets his come-uppence in historical China (during one-of-those dynasties). There are so many funny gags and incidents that it would probably take a number of viewings to get them all even for a Cantonese speaker. Non -Chinese will have to 'work' at this, but they will be well rewarded with a truly inspired comedy that never seems to let up. IMHO this is one of Stephens' all time classics made during his Golden period of the mid nineties which included
Forbidden City Cop and the God of Cookery. Higly recomended to lovers of comedy.

Yes i think its a great film and it is very funny, but i don't anyone should get this version on dvd. you should get the other version of hail the judge(with the green cover!
