Hong Kong actor-director Kelvin Chan Kin Long makes his feature directorial debut with Hand Rolled Cigarette which, like My Prince Edward and Elisa's Day, was a winning work of the 4th First Feature Film Initiative. The opening film of the 17th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, Hand Rolled Cigarette was nominated in seven categories at the 57th Golden Horse Awards including Best Film. Set in Hong Kong's underbelly, the neo-noir thriller stars Gordon Lam as a former British Hong Kong soldier who turns to crime for livelihood.

After the disbandment of the Hong Kong Military Service Corps in 1996, former Hong Kong soldiers of the colonial-era British garrison must find new ways to make a living. Ex-soldier Kwan Chiu (Gordon Lam) joins the triads to make ends meets. In recent years, it's been hard to get by due to the sluggish economy, but he manages to broker a big turtle smuggling deal between Hong Kong and Taiwan triads. One day, South Asian gangster Mani (Bipin Karma) is being chased and takes shelter in Chiu's home in the Chungking Mansions. Chiu agrees to harbor Mani for five days in exchange for HK$1 million, and the two develop a friendship over that time period. When Chiu's smuggling deal goes wrong and leaves him with a massive debt to triad boss Tai (Ben Yuen), Mani gives Chiu a pack of drugs to pay it off. But what will Chiu do when Mani gets captured by Tai?

退役華 籍英軍關超 (林家棟 飾)在香港回歸後失去身分，面臨經濟壓力只好加入黑社 會維持生計，某天被躲避幫派老大泰哥(袁富華 飾)追殺的南 亞裔青年文尼(比平卡瑪 飾)誤闖家門，文尼以一百萬酬勞換取短暫收留，關超欣然接受。另一方面，泰哥與台灣黑幫菜甫(杜燕歌 飾)進行金錢龜走 私交易破局，作為中間人的關超遭受連累，不僅捲入這起鬥爭，暗藏文尼的行為被泰哥發現之後，更面臨走投無路的危險局面…。
