[ストーリー]
１５９２年４月。朝鮮は壬辰倭乱（文禄・慶長の役）の勃発後、わずか１５日で日本軍に漢陽を奪われ絶体絶命の危機に瀕する。破竹の勢いで占領を進める日本軍は明国への進軍を念頭に、軍勢を釜山浦に集結させる。一方、イ・スンシン将軍は、相次ぐ戦の敗北や宣祖の義州への避難など、守勢に追いやられながらも朝鮮を救うため出陣の準備を進めていた。しかし、先の海戦で破壊されてしまった亀船での出戦は難しく、その上、亀船の図面まで日本軍の間者によって盗まれてしまう…。日本軍は連戦連勝の勢いに乗り閑山島沖へと出陣、対するイ・スンシン将軍は朝鮮の運命を分ける戦にある戦略を用意する。１５９２年夏、旧暦７月８日閑山島沖にて戦国史上最大の海戦の幕が切って落とされた。

天下統一を成し遂げた豊臣秀吉が、次の狙いを大陸の明国に定め、侵攻の足がかりとして朝鮮半島に出兵した≪文禄・慶長の役≫。その戦の中でも日本と朝鮮、両軍の大きな分岐点となった≪閑山島海戦≫を映像化し、韓国で動員７３０万人を超える大ヒットを記録した本作。両軍の名将、イ・スンシン（李舜臣）と脇坂安治の壮絶な海上決戦を、規格外の歴史スペクタクル映画として描いた超大作！
