The filmmaker takes a step back towards his eccentric indie style with Her Granddaughter, an offbeat May-September romance based on the manga by Nishi Keiko. Eikura Nana stars as Tsugumi, a woman in her early 30s who leaves the city to live in her recently deceased grandmother's house. When she arrives, she sees 51-year-old Jun (Toyokawa Etsushi) – who claims to be her grandmother's former student - living in the annex house. From there, the two begins an odd life as housemates.

[ストーリー]
東京で忙しくキャリアを積み、辛い恋愛をしていた女性・堂園つぐみ（榮倉奈々）は、なにもかもに疲れ、仕事を辞めて祖母が暮らす田舎の一軒家でひっそりと暮らし始める。期せずして迎えた祖母の死をきっかけに、そこで独身の大学教授・海江田醇（豊川悦司）と出会う。生前、祖母から鍵を預かっていたと言う海江田。つぐみに好意を抱いたと、強引にその家の離れに住み込むことに。最初は歳の離れた男性の求愛に戸惑いを感じるつぐみだったが、次第に心を開いてゆく…。自分は幸せになれないと決め込んでいた女性と、恋愛を拒み、落ち着く家庭を得ることはないと信じ込んでいた５０代の男性。二人のちぐはぐな生活と、ゆっくりと“人を愛する”ということに向き合ってゆく姿を描いた大人のラブストーリー！
