YesAsia Editorial Description
BoA's seventh J-pop album Identity invites fans to all-new dance numbers, ballads, and collaboration songs. The album includes her recent hits Bump Bump! with m-flo's Verbal and Mamoritai - White Wishes -. Perhaps the most outstanding part of this 13-track release however is that BoA makes her debut as a producer.
This edition comes with a DVD featuring music video, live footage from BoA Release Party Best&USA -Thank You For Your Support!!- at Studio Coast on April 6, 2009 plus more.

Her most Unique.
Her most Unique.
Some fans alot of you are, criticising this album saying she "Lost her identity",umm Not really, this album is the most her becuase this is the only album SHE had alot of input on.And i think this album is amazing,i just wish there had been more singles ,the best songs are "Fallin'" "Is this love?" "ネコラブ" ,"Possibility" "Bump Bump" And "THE END そして and" I wish That "IZM" had been included becuase in my opinion its better Than "Bump Bump", "This is who i am" COULD have been good, but it sounds really weak. Overall, this is probably boA's best album(Besides "Valenti" and "Love&Honesty) |

The Album title sums it up !!
The Album title sums it up !!
Identity; Boa lost hers about a year and a half ago when she started in the U.S. ( big mistake) S.M. & Avex. the hip hop she performs is horrendous, to include the so called Ballads ,read all my reviews on B.O.A. she has always been my 3 rd fave performer of all, looks like if she continues at this rate ,her album Girls on top will be referring to Girls Generation..the very first song she sounds like she is giving out of breath after the first line..after spending Quite a few grand on her the past 9 Years ,i feel cheated allthough all the singles ,albums ,and dvd's were for a lot of folks. and the last bit of bad news ,boa did not chart as well as the Korean group ,wonder girls , with boa's new style of singing umm, welll, No Wonder (Wonder Girls) Billboard not bad. At Least Faye Wong and Elvis ,still kick butt, dead or alive....Later |

I was excited, but....
I was excited, but....
I'll admit that I'm considered a "New BoA Fan" because I didn't start listening to her until rumours of a U.S.A debut started up. Though, I did love 'THE FACE' album.
The singles to this album I fell in love with ('BUMP BUMP! feat. VERBAL', 'まもりたい ~White Wishes~' and 'Possibility duet with 三浦大知'). So, easy enough to say, I was excited to get this album. However, though I like BoA's ballads, I always feel like ballads tend to dominate her albums and I'm not a very ballad-oriented person. There are some of her ballads that are absolutely amazing, but for those on this album, I just felt like there were too many. Okay, so this is the first album BoA's releasing an album as a producer and I respect her for that - but, personally, I think she's more suited to upbeat dance songs. Other than the singles on this album, the only other songs I REALLY like are 'LAZER' and 'ネコラブ'. |

People never appreciate the REAL GIRL...
People never appreciate the REAL GIRL...
I really felt this album made me become a true BoA fan. As much as many old-time fans have their almost negative ideas about the album, I also see that's she's reaching new fans. The fans that REALLY like her for her, and will appreciate this music. Out with the old and in with the new. BoA is fed up with being what everybody wants her to be, and is ready to follow HER OWN DREAM, and do what SHE wants to do, which is evident in the opening song Who I Am. I am proud of her for that. I personally love this album more than all of her past albums, where she was "pop replica" of just about every pop artist you can think of. Where she didn't seem to not know what she was singing (partly because she didn't write many of the songs), neither did her ideas about things match up with her "plastic image." BoA always said she was a tomboy, so why was she always made to look like something she wasn't? She was made to be fake to get Avex some sales. She seemed like a "glazed school girl pop icon designed to give the media something to look at." Now she seems comfortable in her own skin, and she's doing her own thing.
But this is her. If you don't like this album, you don't like BoA, and so it's time to move on and make room for new fans... From the cover to the music, I actually see that Boa is laid-back and mature, but strong-minded and independent. Songs like Bump Sump and Lazer show her edge. Neko love reveal her life as a celebrity, This is Who I Am is her trying to break from her old image, and many other songs reveal the real her. And the songs themselves have a realness to them, not the pop fluff she used to create, but real, soft, jazzy music. I'm so feeling this album. |

An album with a personal touch
An album with a personal touch
Why can't people just except that BoA has her own style. If she claims this to be the real her, then this is the sound she 'IDENTIFIES' as herself. This is the sound she wants to portray and I really do not believe that the proper criticism is being given.
This album is a turn for BoA. All her years making Japanese albums didn't include her personal taste. Before now, sound was 'given' to her. Her American album allowed her to explore other fields and now she wants to produce and show people how she feels musically. Fans consider consistency in musical style makes a steady artist, but the fact that BoA is becoming more and more spontaneous leaves fans anticipating her next move. However, because of this, some hardcore longtime fans may find this album a bit hard to swallow but I love this album because I can finally hear what she's wanted to express for years. Music sounds different when the artist finally puts their hands into the creation process. I truly commend her for taking this challenge. With age comes new experiences. ^_^ Maybe she wants to challenge herself to getting No. 1 by her own work. Overall, this is a VERY decent album for her first production. This album includes her singles "Bump Bump!", "White Wishes", "THE END soshite and..." from the White Wishes single, as well her new duet 'Possibility' with Daichi Miura. Out of the non-promotional tracks, dance tracks "EASY" and "LASER" and slow tracks "is this love" and "fallin'" were the most memorable to me. I felt that "This is who i am" could have a bit more developed. There's something a little off about it... My only criticism is that the interludes were unnecessary. They were only a few seconds of footsteps, etc... Also, I would have bought the DVD version if the Possibility PV were included. Also, I wish "IZM" could have been included as well like "THE END" was. I don't think the album is PERFECT, but it's EXCELLENT in talent. BoA has really shown some potential and I really look forward to more of her work. |
