The Curse of the Dog God
The Curse of the Dog God
The three movies I'd previously seen from director Harada Masato ("Heartbreak Yakuza", "Kamikaze Taxi", and "Bounce Kogals") revealed nothing to prepare me for the strangeness of "Inugami", which might best be described as an art house horror film.
Young Nutahara Akira (Watabe Atsuro) arrives in the tiny town of Omire to take a job as a teacher. He meets Bonomiya Miki (Amami Yuki), a middle-aged maker of fine paper. Akira finds himself drawn to the older woman, who actually appears to grow physically younger as their relationship blossoms. Akira soon learns that the mountain village of Omire is not as placid as it seems. Most of the residents are related, with one extended family ruling the roost and the other extended family deemed to be the poor relations who are under the curse of the Dog God. A series of horrifying events commences upon Akira's arrival in the town; the locals believe that his arrival triggered the rising of the curse in the person of Miki. Director Harada unfolds his story in oblique chapters constructed to keep the viewer guessing at what mystery underlies the strange behaviors of these family members. We get hints of a dark past which has included incest and infanticide. Patience is required to let this puzzle of a story emerge into coherence. When we finally begin to see how the pieces fit together we reach a shocking implosion of an ending. This film is not a genre horror movie and likely won't please many fans of that genre. It is aimed at mature art house filmgoers and definitely should succeed in intriguing that crowd. Great work!
Great work!
This movie is really great. The way the different cameras are used is just - wow! It really has a unique atmosphere and an interesting, most of the time pretty impressing story! And even when you watch this movie more than just one time it still doesn't lose its amazing way to suck you into the story...
I can really recomment this movie to everyone! it's worth watching it - especially when you're interested in the way movies create their atmospheres! An amazing piece of work! |

for all you people out there if you want a scare-your-pants-off movie i don't think this is it. i do agree however that the film took place in a creepy place....i didn't like the ending and honestly it just wasn't scary enough and it had poor picture quality. |

resident evil
St. John's wort is just like the other viewers who already gave half of the story away becase of it's own unique way of the screen film making. The whole story is like playing the classic video game "resident evil" or some of you may known as "biohazard". This is a pretty well done movie despite I wish the plot was more scary than it already is. The creepy atmosphere thru out the whole film was definitly a success. I would recomand to all you horror flicks. Oh, The ending was also entertaining. |
