YesAsia Editorial Description

MBC's hugely popular Ju Mong is the first of a wave of Korean historical dramas dealing with the Goguryeo Dynasty (approximately 37 BC-AD 668). Written by veteran Choi Wan Gyu (Hur Jun, Sang Do, and All In) and Jung Hyung Soo (Damo), Ju Mong is one of Korea's most impressive and popular historical dramas. Ju Mong was the most highly rated Korean drama of 2006, dominating television screens with viewership ratings of over 40% during its year of broadcast.

Ju Mong is the name of the legendary founder of Goguryeo, King Dongmyeongseong. The story starts with the conflict between Gojoseon, an ancient Korean kingdom, and Han Chinese forces, eventually leading to a fragmented Korean Peninsula. Hero-in-the-making Ju Mong (Song Il Gook, Emperor of the Sea) is born in this time of chaos and struggle in the little independent state of Buyeo. He quickly finds himself the most unlikely of princes and the victim of a rivalry with his brother Dae So (Kim Seung Soo, A Million Roses). He is forced to choose between the boyish charm of young merchant So Seo No (Han Hye Jin, Be Strong, Geum Soon!) and the innocent smile of Bu Yeong (Im So Young), a servant he's known for years. Through dangerous trials and painful lessons of the heart, Ju Mong must rise to the occasion to unite the land and bring peace to his people.

BEYOND EXPECTATIONS Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I bought this entire series last year & I've watched it 4 times in amongst watching other TV shows & movies. It's just THAT GOOD. I don't speak much Korean, but the subtitles all seem REALLY GOOD. There was only 2 spots I found where a small tiny spelling error had been made, but it was very minor. Even if you've seen it all it still keeps you on the edge of your seat watching each episode one after the other. The plot is genius & the costumes, props & sets are amazingly realistic & authentic. Also, the battles & fighting seems so realistic as well. It's the REAL thing. All the acting is amazingly superb. My favorite character is Hyupbo as he makes me laugh. The boxsets all come in superior packaging. Each boxset is a REAL thick box that holds closed at the side by a magnetic piece. Inside when opened is two flip-out cardboard things that hold each disk in a plastic jewel thing that's heavily glued onto the beautifully decorated case. Each disk has 3 episodes(60 mins per episode) except for the final DVD of each boxset which has 1-2 episodes & the bonus material. The final bonus stuff at the very end of the 4th boxset was GREAT to watch. There was hilarious bloopers, great talk show interview thing where you got to be even more up close with the actors. Was really funny as well. There was also some behind the scenes photoshoots & more. Very interesting to watch. Vols 1&3 also come with reference guides that explain bits about history of these times, tell you about some of the characters a little & give you an introduction to the actors that play them all. Jumong is intriguing, intense & makes you really think about all he did for these people during a time when things like slavery & torture were common & treated as "normal". I was also SO pleased to see that they portrayed love in this show without the need of seeing people in bed without their clothes on. I also have watched this with my roommates who were not familiar with Korean shows before this & are also now big fans of it as well. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND & DEEPLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE WHO LOVES GREAT PLOTS, ACTING, SCENERY AND MORE TO BUY ALL 4 VOLUMES OF THIS SHOW. IT'S AN AMAZING MASTERPIECE!
Btw, if Region1 isn't your region, YA carries All Region DVD Players. I have 3 for each room in my home. ^_^

Jumong Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I am kinda disappointed in channel fifty o three NTDTV. I am going to telling you why I am disappointed in this TV station, for on reason is because the station went off the air yesterday, and today. I do not what the problem is but they need to put this station on TV tonight. They need to start the beginning of this movie Jumong. There were other movie that was on this TV station. I am missing the part where Jumong finally get to see his son, and rescue his first wife in this movie. I really enjoy this movie. I would like for New Tang Dynasty V to come back on the air. I would like to see the beginning of the movie called Jumong.

Super Addicting Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I had heard nothing but good things about this Drama, and up until this one I wasn't too familiar with ANY K-Dramas at all. I've been getting sick of a lot of the stuff on American TV, and finally decided to purchase this boxset when I saw that YA had a ton of these K-Dramas on sale. So it finally arrived yesterday, and in good timing as well. The boxset is made extremely strong. It opens up from the side of a piece that's magnetic holding it closed. Sitting at top when you open it is a small reference guide book and two fold-out cases holding the 7-Disks very well in place. The reference guide is extremely helpful and explains in a couple pages some very interesting things about Korean history, which will also better help you enjoy the show. In it is also some bits about Korean etiquette, three-legged crow, the old fashioned way they spoke in telling time and short introductions to all major characters along with a little about the actor that plays each one. The DVDs are all very nice and each DVD has 3 episodes(60 mins per episode). As for the show itself, I found that within less than 10mins into the 1st episode I was hooked. The acting is all superb and the story just keeps going and going keeping you glued to your seat. There's always something going on that you don't wanna miss out on. The fighting is also very realistically and well done. They're actually using real fighting techniques that people used during that period. I've already ordered the other volumes(2,3&4), and I Highly Recommend You Do As Well. It's A Purchase Worth The Time And Money.

Great History Drama Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Jumong is a great Korean history drama. I like it a lot.
The story was grand. The images and BGM were excellent. The production team put all 81 episodes together were amazing.

The only thing I hate was the subtitles; characters’ names got changed and country names got changed. I have to rely on my limited Korean to understand it.
