The Sword Identity's writer-director Xu Haofeng continues his stoic, minimalist style of pure martial arts dramas with the sophomore effort Judge Archer. Like its predecessor, Judge Archer is adapted from Xu's own novella and stars Song Yang and Yu Chenghui. In the early 20th century during the tumultuous beginning of China's Republican era, order collapses as warlords vie for power, and the martial arts world is also invariably pulled into the conflicts. After enduring a traumatic experience, the young Shuangxi (Song Yang) escapes his village and starts anew in the outside world. By chance, he meets an old man known as "Judge Archer," the arbiter of disputes between martial arts schools, and trains under the elder statesman. After his mentor's death, Shuangxi takes on the name of Judge Archer and the difficult task of arbitrating the altercations of different martial arts parties, delivering justice through swift duels and impressive displays of archery and martial arts.

２０世紀初頭、混乱下の中国では、武術を極める各流派が覇権を争いあっていた。そんな武術家たちの抗争を、正義の名のもとに仲裁し収める役目を担う孤高の人物がいた。その名も“ジャッジ・アーチャー”、弓の審判人。あらゆる武道に通じ、さらに武術中の武術とも言われる弓術を極めた老人である。ある日、暗殺者の待ち伏せにあい瀕死の状態に陥った自分を偶然見つけた、名も無き青年を自分の後継者と定め、死ぬまでの３年間、弓を始めとする武術の真髄の全てを彼に授けていった。修行を終え、新たなジャッジ・アーチャーとなった青年は山を下り、熾烈なる武術の世界に身を投じる。中国全土の道場を類まれなる技で制覇しながら争いに終止符を打ってゆく。その名はやがて武術界に知れわたることになるが、それに目をつけて彼に接近してきた一人の女があった。彼女の父親が海外での抗争でヤンなる男に殺害されたと語る女。父親の名誉のため、正義の名のもとにヤンを殺して欲しいというのだ。自ら殺しに身を染めることに抵抗を覚えつつ女の依頼を断りきれないジャッジ・アーチャーは、それをきっかけにやがて予期もせぬ究極の戦いに足を踏み入れることになる！
