May 22, 2006 good ensemble in the darkness
I liked this movie. When lights went out, human
stories continued and perhaps, truer feelings
and emotions surfaced with more urgency.
Different stories weaved and told with such
consideration and understanding that is so typical
of the many wonderful Japanese movies that I find this
movie can be watched again on a dark and raining
Of course, I always love watching

This is a great movie. Saw it many years ago in Calif.
I remembered the excitement it generated amongst
many college kids who went to movies.
It's one of the best modern Japanese movies. Unforgettable.
Firework (Vol.1-32) (End) (English Subtitled)April 2, 2006 Love vs Tradition Independence vs Duty
Lee Young Ae got caught in all kinds of dilemma
that have to do with her independence
in love, in career and in duty of tradition. She
was again excellent in this series. I don't know
much about Lee Kyung Young. I liked him a lot for
his role as a mature doctor who is suffocating by
his wife's smothering and scheming dependence on
him. In this series, true love triumphs at the end
(not without cost, but that's life).
The whole series may not deserve a 10. But for
Lee Young Ae, a definite 10+.

March 30, 2006 Rather Average.......
Both actors did their best. The script was not
that interesting or original. For me, it was a
bit of disappointment.

March 30, 2006 Choi Min Soo's excellent comedic role!
I enjoyed this movie. Choi Min Soo as usual was
great. Some of the scenes were hysterically funny
that I laughed so hard.
Even though Choi is such a wonderful drama actor, he
is also one of the most attractive comedy great.
Love to see him in more comedies. Of course, we must
not forget all the beautiful cakes he baked in this

This was a nice surprise. A nice story about the
loves and struggles of this Taiwan rock group. Before
long you wanted to root for them because of their
insistent dream about their music. I particularly
liked the lyrics of their songs as well as their
nice music. Best wishes to Shin Yue Tuan!

Interesting story lines. The four child actors were
very good especially the two girls.
The actress who played Tumy was excellent. Of course
Ju Jin Mo never disappoints.
Packaging was very good. I wish English was showing
next to the Korean language on each disk cover.
Alas, the English translation left a lot to be
desired. You are able to understand it, but needs

March 5, 2006 The Very BEST. 10++++++++++++
It's so rare to see a drama presentation that is so
real, perfectly written and beautifully acted by
the entire cast. The direction was perfection. Everything was in its proper place and everyword was
not wasted. The whole series was coherent, honest
and deeply moving.
The three main characters were superbly chosen.
Choi Min Soo and Park San Won were fantastic and
perfectly convincing. Go Hyun Jung was excellent
as were the rest of the amazing cast.
In the background of the political turbulence at that
time, as in all other countries through history, it's always the students who were the bravest and the most idealistic. The story of the friendship and loyalty
of two best friends are powerful and unforgettable.
This is a classic. It deserves much, much more than a 10.
Tokyo Tower (DVD) (Taiwan Version)March 5, 2006 Stylish but Empty
Hitomi was very lovely in this movie so was the
overall feel of it, very stylish.
However, I couldn't bring myself to feel strong
understanding or sympathy for her role in the movie.
The "tango" lady and her young man both were excellent and she would be a perfect candidate to have an affair or a fling or even shoot her husband when she is mad enough.
Junichi looked much older than a 19 year old. He
was not "wide eyed" and "head over heel" enough to
fall for a much older woman. Perhaps he put too much
emphasis on his "sophistication".
The ending did not convince me even though I realize
it's not easy to do a "May - Dec" movie well.

February 24, 2006 A Flawless and Wonderful Movie.
This is a movie which represents the artistic merit
of so many wonderful Japanese movies. It tells a
moving story of a seventeen year old girl and her
relationship with her parents. Particularly her
perception of First Love and her relationship with
her sick mother and her father. Her mother's old
music box holds the secret.......
Tanaka Rena is PERFECTION in this movie. The rest
of cast were all excellent. It's such a joy to watch
a movie that flows naturally in exquisite timing and
perfect detail. Nothing is overdone even including
the beautiful music. I LOVE this movie!
g@me. Standard Edition (Japan Version - English Subtitles)(3)Our Price: US$42.49February 21, 2006 A cool and sleek movie
Fujiki Naohito and Nakama Yukie are perfectly
casted in this movie. I havn't figured out exactly
why I like Nao, but I do.
The plot holds your attention. The sets sleek and the
pace never hesitates.
I like this movie very much.
Cafe Lumiere (Taiwan Version)February 20, 2006 I love this movie!
This is my favorite movie by Hou Xiao Xien. I have
already watched it several times. Every time, you
learn something new and wonderful.
This is also Hototo Yo's movie debut. She is superb and
a very natural actress. She also has a very interesting
and intelligent face. Hope to see many more movies
with her in it.(aside from being a great singer).
Asano Tadanobu needs no introduction. He is perfect
for his role. I love the mood, the details and the pace
in which director Hou tells his story.
Don't miss this movie.
Na Shi Mo Zheng Jiu Ni Wo De Ai Ren(Vol.1-23)(China Version)(3)Our Price: US$27.99February 20, 2006 Great effort, Interesting, not plausible
I am very glad to see Chinese drama series taking
a giant leap trying to do something interesting,
artful and visually and emotionally expressive.
I like the general concept of the story because it's
a mutilayered love story, it's a survival and struggle of the less fortunate and it's a suspense drama.
However, the legal procedure doesn't seem plausible.
I am at loss trying to explain what the earnest lawyer
sees in the young woman/model. A typical airhead.
What can he possibly talk or discuss any topic with
her? For that, I also find the lawyer not terribly
interesting himself. May be I am too hard on him.
Liu Ye's character is very well played. Again, very
weak and limited by his niceness. If only someone
makes a stand and be completely honest.
A great effort was being made for this drama. It
certainly held your attention. For that, it deserves
a "9" in my book. All the supporting actors were
Change some personalities (or actors) of the three main
characters and a different ending, this could have
been a truly interesting and great drama.

I enjoyed this series for three reasons:
1. One can always relate to pains of growing up whether
it has to do with being a teenager, or young
adults in a business world, or young people trying
hard to find themselves after setbacks.
2. Takenouchi Yataka was so sincere in questioning
"is this all there is?" about his own life that's
constantly under pressure.
3. Hirosue Ryoko's excellent performance about
growing up without her mother at her side and her
love for her grandfather who raised her. Also
being a teenager and having crashes on the men
who showed up at her door (the inn).
Good ensemble cast and heartwarming stories.
February 18, 2006 I found more Matsumoto Seicho!
My previous comment about finding only one on the list
was the result of punching in the author's English
Using the side bar on Chinese, I was able to get
a whole list of his books. Sorry for my impatience
and thank you!
February 18, 2006 Excellent !
I was very surprised to find the only book of
Matsumoto Seicho's listed here while some really
mediocre to really bad books took more prominent
positions. Does it have to do with foreign
translation/publishing, popular demand or simply bad taste?
This book is not the very best of Matsumoto Seicho.
Still, it's better than most. It deserves an
excellent rating. The English translations of some
of his best books are truly great. The translators
are mostly university professors or scholars. That's

A man, his trains and his beloved family.
I can't think of anyone else who can better play
the man other than Takakura Ken. He was perfection.
The deep snow and a solitary man waiving his sign
