An album where every song stands out on its own, yet comes together to form a cohesive and solid effort. The excellent ballad "Kimi to no fureai" is the main attraction of this album, but be ready to be enchanted by each and every track as you listened through.
This album debuted at no.2 on the japanese ORICON chart, but even then it is not enough an indicator of how much satisfaction and enjoyment you can derive from this album.
Divas, larger than life rock bands, pop superstars come and go, but after 15 years in the business ZARD is still continously producing great music year after year, thriving to give fans a better experience each time. Miss Sakai's sole dedication to her music is a beacon of light that stands silently and proudly, no matter how times change.

RE: the title of my earlier review...
|There needs to be a notice printed somewhere as to how many characters can be in a title. Mine got cut off because it was too long, and thus...now looks a little odd. What my title was SUPPOSED to read was: "just when you think ZARD can't get any better...she does". I merely wanted to clarify what I had typed. And since I am writing again, let me repeat: EXCELLENT and BRILLIANT release.|

just when you think ZARD can't get any better...sh
|WOW. This CD is nothing short of wondrous. It's really rare to find an artist that releases CD after CD of non-skippable tracks! Nothing on her last release OR on this one needs skipping. Each track is a jewel sung in the delightful dulcet tones of ZARD. She should be an inspiration for ALL singers the world over on how NOT to become stagnant or rely on previous fame to continue to carry them. This artist CONTINUES to work and evolve and it is joy to witness. Overall, this has got to be the most emotional release from ZARD. Not only are the songs more up-tempo than before, but she is more raw with both her lyrics, her singing and her music choices. I typically like to review CDs track by track so other people can "see" what is contained on a release, so I will do that here as well. Track #1 begins in standard ZARD form with a mid-tempo song...but the ending is almost Latin in flavor...already showing a hint of some departures from the ZARD gone before. Track #2 is probably my favorite (but picking 1 favorite out of 13 favorites is NOT easy) because it really took me by surprise on first listen: a pure, up-tempo rock song. Track #3 is a power guitar ballad that is simply passionate and gorgeous. ZARD really can hit those notes and hold them with a vocal strength that is truly rare. Track #4 has an explosive beat that has expressive lyrics and a catchy refrain. Extremely contagious. Track #5 is an emotional piano ballad. Track #6 has some unusual wood-winds and an almost traditional feel to the melody which ZARD mostly whispers. Very moving and unique. Track #7 is acoustic guitar with a catchy beat that will capture your heart as well as your ears! Track #8 is a bit over-synthesized and too "steady" to really be a great song for me. It's my least favorite on the CD because it sounds too "forced" and not as natural as the others. Track #9 is a lullaby-type ballad, but not boring. It is very soothing and shows a tender side of ZARD. Track #10 is an elegant ballad with lots of vocal range and shows an amazingly expressive part of ZARD. This song is stunningly lovely in it's entirity. Track #11 is another pure rock song but throws in some unusual beats that kind of carry the listener along like a tide... Track #12 is very a-typical for ZARD. I've never heard her use such an enormous chorus before. It sounded a bit like a loud choir, and while I didn't like all the additional singers...it is a sunny, happy-go-lucky fun type of song. The final track, Track #13 ends the CD on it's perfect note. An acoustic piano ballad that makes for an ideal ending. This time the chorus sounds more like just a duet (I don't know who she is singing with...but the other singer has a MUCH MUCH higher voice) and while I appreciate the display of harmony, ZARD gets a little lost in the other singer's range...almost like ZARD switches her notes to match the other singer and can't quite hold her own against such a loud high soprano singer. Still, it's a special ending and is a nice effort on the part of ZARD to show that she CAN sing with others. However, I personally prefer her singing alone! But that's only my opinion. I still insist this entire CD is a gem and not to be missed. I can't think of anyone who would not like this. ZARD has covered a lot of bases, but done it so subtly that it doesn't stand out as an active effort to capture the largest audience. The CD still flows and has no "spots" that really stick out. Granted, I have my favorite and least favorite track, but that's true of every disk I own. At least with ZARD you get your money's worth: 13 songs and no skipped tracks! A total treat. I know I will be playing this CD a LOT. I liked her last CD (the one that got me into ZARD's music), but it seemed a little mundane when played from start to finish...NOT THIS CD! This CD is amazingly chock full of delights around every note. I also like how ZARD knows her register and doesn't try to hit notes that are not in her comfort zone. She IS not one to hit the high piercing notes, so she doesn't even try. It leaves her vocals feeling warm and comfortable. ZARD knows who she is and how to sing. A woman of obvious ability and with this release...we see she is also a woman of emotion and expression. Support ZARD and BUY THIS NOW!|
