YesAsia Editorial Description

Third time's the charm as the Kung Fu Mahjong franchise returns for another round with Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel. Directed by Bosco Lam, the film features the usual suspects - television star Roger Kwok (Square Pegs) who skipped out on the sequel but returns for the third film, kung fu duo Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu, and, of course, writer and producer Wong Jing. Kung Fu Mahjong 3 bears no connection to the previous films save for the cast and the love for the tiles. Roger Kwok is supported by a welcome line-up of faces not usually seen on the big screen including TVB starlet and former Miss Hong Kong Shirley Yeung in her film debut, veteran comedic actor Ha Yu, ATV actress Patricia Liu, and stylish ATV actor Ricky Chan Bo Yuen (Confession of Pain). Comedic mainstays DJ Sammy, Wong Yat Fei, and Nat Chan also wander in for some humorous hijinks. Like the previous two films, Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel is light, energetic, and hilarious, providing plenty of good old harmless fun.

As the son of the legendary Uncle Man (Ha Yu), suave mahjong expert Ken (Roger Kwok) is the de-facto successor to his father's mahjong business and gambling title. It seems love is in the air for both father and son, as Uncle Man saunters in with his new young wife Sophie (Patricia Liu) and Ken meets the charming Nancy (Shirley Yeung). The good times quickly run dry though when it turns out that Nancy is a bad luck magnet who brings calamity to all she comes in contact with. Stricken with some serious bad luck, Ken just can't stop losing. Meanwhile, the cunning Sophie, working in cahoots with rival Bowie (Ricky Chan), tries to usurp the family business by challenging Ken to a high-stakes mahjong match. Can Ken overcome his losing streak in time to save the business?

Ken (Roger Kwok), has mastered mahjong and is nicknamed "The Half-Century Man" because he once won 50 hands of mahjong in a roll. Everybody expects him to succeed his father, Uncle Man (Ha Yu), to be the Grandmaster of Kungfu Mahjong. However, Uncle Man has a heart attack on his 60th birthday and is hospitalized. Sophie, Uncle Man's new wife takes the opportunity to persuade him to leave his estate to her instead of his son. Uncle Man tells her that she would get her wish if she beats Ken in a game of mahjong.

Meanwhile, Ken falls in love with Nancy (Shirley Yeung), a lady of rotten luck. All her previous boyfriends were either bankrupt or had died in accidents. Ken's fortunes go downhill instantly, to the extent that when he plays mahjong with Sophie and her lover, Bowie, he's almost cleaned out.

I love mahjong too Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Ah, wouldn't it be lovely if we, too, could hold a few rounds of mahjong sessions with those to-die-for- hands of 'royal flush', 4winds & 13-odds (sup sum yew). One of my top fave tvb guy Roger Kwok returns to this mahjong saga in a totally unrelated sequel.

The whole supporting cast of veterans and newcomers certainly worked their magic and their on-screen chemistry was great. I almost didn't want it to end.
