Arashi once again served as hosts for the 2012 edition of Nippon Television's 24-Hour Television telethon, and Arashi member Ninomiya Kazunari is starring in this year's 24-Hour Television drama special Kuruma Isu de Boku wa Sora wo Tobu. Based on the autobiographical novel Inochi no Counseling, the inspiring drama stars Ninomiya as Yasuyuki, a delinquent who falls into depression after a spinal cord injury confines him to a wheelchair. After becoming friends with store employee Kumi (Ueto Aya) and another young man with the same injury in the hospital, Yasuyuki is inspired to take his rehabilitation seriously.

ダメ人生を歩んできた車椅子の青年が、誰かを助けたいと、カウンセラーとしての第一歩を踏み出すまでを描く、魂の軌跡と奇跡の物語。

チンピラ崩れのダメ男、長谷部泰之(二宮和也)は、チンピラ同士のトラブルの末、脊髄を損傷し、車イス生活を余儀なくされる。絶望の中、泰之は、幼い石井大輔(鈴木福)と売店の店員・加藤久美(上戸彩)、同じ脊椎損傷の車イスの青年(池松壮亮)らに出会い、次第に打ち解けていく。彼らとの出会いから泰之は、真剣にリハビリに取り組み始める。だが大輔に残された命はあとわずかだった……。
さらに久美も突然、病院から姿を消してしまう。実は彼女も悲しい過去を背負っていた……。やがて退院した泰之は、母・長谷部はる子(薬師丸ひろ子)と二人暮しを始めるが、はる子が過労で倒れてしまう。「存在自体が迷惑な自分」に嫌気がさした泰之は、自殺を決意する。果たして泰之は自分の人生を、どう切り開き、どう未来を見つめていくのか――。
