YesAsia Editorial Description

Released in 1993, a year of peak production for Jet Li, Last Hero in China was Wong Jing's go at a story about one of the most loved folk heroes in Chinese history, Wong Fei Hung. By that time, Jet Li had already established himself as the definitive Wong Fei Hung of the early 90s, having starred as the martial artist and physician in four of Tsui Hark's Once Upon a Time in China films. As it's written and directed by Wong Jing, Last Hero in China has a decidedly lighter, more comedic tone than Jet Li's other outings as Wong Fei Hung, but, with Yuen Woo Ping as action choreographer, the film's action scenes are no less dynamic than those of its more sober cousins.

Thanks to the bumbling efforts of his disciples So (Dicky Cheung) and Leung Fun (Bryan Leung), Wong Fei Hung returns to Guangdong after a stint in Hong Kong to find that his martial arts academy has moved to a new space – right beside a brothel. Although he's worshipped as a hero by the brothel's owner (Nat Chan) and his sister (Anita Yuen), he has no time for them, as he uncovers a shocking human trafficking operation. While investigating, he encounters Tit Yin (Sharla Cheung) and her father, who've traveled from Sichuan to find her kidnapped sister. Together, the three delve deeper into the mystery, and discover that the person behind the whole human trafficking ring may be none other than the city's top government official, Lui Yat Siu (Alan Chui).

Chicken Feet vs. Centipede Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
WOW!

This is a mind-blowing remaster. In fact, it's so good that the original film can't fulfill all the progressive lines in the 1080p remaster. So in other words, this Blu-Ray contains the highest quality of the original film. That's pretty cool!

Now as far as the review of the film: in most Wong-fei Hong movies, there is always a sense of fantasy and outlandish martial-arts choreography but this movie stands out because of Jet Li's performance.
His performance (with the Yuen-woo Ping's choreography) of the drunken chicken is beyond any mental comprehension.

This is why I am giving this film 4 1/2 stars out of 5. It's that good!

new meaning to chicken feet Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Have to add another preview comment as I've just discovered that the 'tyrant' in this movie is none other than Gordon Lau Ka Fai. Didn't recognise him in the beginning but of course his fight scenes with Jet and the other 2 bumbling fellas were stunning. STill top fit for my hero, Gordon.

Full of gags Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
If you are expecting a serious kung-fu/action movie or are not tolerant of Cantonese gags/humor, move along there's nothing to see here. If you are looking for something light hearted to down-right silly or can tolerate these aspects to see some entertaining fight sequences, then take a look-see. Jet's drunken style is a touch stiff,(not his best style in my opinion) but he is always impressive/enjoyable to watch. It was a treat to view the out-takes during the closing credits. Still a keeper for the Jet Li collection.

last hero in china Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
When I watched this, I thought it was the last of the Once Upon A Time series and expecting Aunt 13 and Jet to progress in their romance. I was wrong. Minus the romance bit and it's still watchable. Fight scenes were ok compared to others but it's full of gags and hilarious situations that only cantonese dialogue could deliver the punch lines. The plot continues with 'foreign invasion' of China, etc.
