No doubting Jung Hyun’s previous Ava Holic mini album was a versatile and interesting one and listening again to those six songs on JH’s 007th emphasis this for me. “Vogue Girl” and “Crazy” are two superb off kilter synth motion songs added with the unusual “Miro 11” music box ditty, the robotic dance of “Neon nae kkeo” and the smoky “2 Night”, make for some eclectic listening content. JH’s cute vocals make the songs even better! 007th does contain all of “Ava Hoilic” (apart from the former’s imaginative packaging!) to make for a super album to a new fan (think of 007th as Ava Holic+), although those who already have Ava Holic (me too!) get AH’s songs all over again (maybe a set for each ear!). A big JHL fan as 007th already, but anyone else who as AH and wondering if 5 new tracks is worth it, the answer is yes when the new songs are as good as Ava Holics. Out of 007th’s new goodies are “Wae-i-rae?”, probably the best out of the new electronic dance tracks here (liked lottsa!) and JH’s cute vocal refrain/melody makes this a hit for me. “Ini-mini-mani-mo” is more dance electronic but JH boldly going into the familiar cutealicious dance arena of Kara, Wonder girls, 4 Minute and T-ara cute candy K-pop. “AVAtar” is more matured synth dance disco with an interesting alter ego title (Avatar or AVA and tar). “Suspicious Man”, a decent dance song, but more generic. On top of the body-movers is the nice ballad “Yeon (year)”, with Jung Hyun’s cute soulful vocal.
Visually, the Spy Girl theme is okay; a bit along the lines of Jolin’s “Agent J”? It’s just that Jung Hyun being more left field requires something a little more risqué than the overused. For instance her “Crazy” video could have something visually and logically mad. Like Jung Hyun standing in split colour light rays of a refracting prism (similar to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon) with Jung Hyun as a neu romantic “Visage” painted silicon/robot doll fighting to stay in control of her emotions and human creators. Or something like that. Lady Gaga would be proud then! CD is a standard jewel case + booklet/photos. I liked the case reverse with Jung Hyun’s I <3 China, I <3 Korea, I <3 Japan graphic, obviously JH being a bit of a luvee <3. 007th is certainly worth the money, maybe an additional re-mix/MV version in future perhaps? If you haven’t heard Jung Hyun and luv Christina Aguilera’s new “Bi-on-ic” album, Lady Gaga and electro pop in general, JHL is the S Koren pop gal for you! <3 00heaventh7th |
