YesAsia Editorial Description

Known for being commercially driven and generally apolitical, Hong Kong was rocked in 2012 by a seismic grassroots campaign, one of the first of its kind in the bustling city, led by two high school students. Respectively just 14 and 17 at the time of filming, Joshua Wong and Ma Jai rallied young Hong Kongers in protesting what they perceived to be an insular government and its dangerous public policies. British director Matthew Torne, who originally just planned on telling the stories of two highschoolers with a passion for social issues, instead found himself documenting one of the most significant movements in Hong Kong's recent history.

This edition includes a 96-page booklet.

A vivid portrait of a generation of Hong Kongers committed to creating a new Hong Kong. Schoolboy Joshua Wong dedicates himself to stopping the introduction of National Education. Whilst former classmate Ma Jai fights against political oppression on the streets and in the courts. Catapulting the viewer on to the streets of Hong Kong and into the heart of the action. The viewer is confronted with the oppressive heat, the stifling humidity and air thick with dissent. Filmed over 18 months this is a kaleidoscopic, visceral experience of their epic struggle.

Hong Kong Documentary Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is an excellent documentary of Hong Kong recent politics and of 2 young men trying to make a difference. The director follows the daily lives of Joshua Wong (2014 Times Magazine Person of the Year nominee) and Mai Ja. 2 young men who have 2 very difference approaches to political reforms with the same goal, to bring true democracy and universal suffrage to Hong Kong. It is a very inspiring story of what young teenagers can do in our society. This is a must buy for all.
