YesAsia Editorial Description

Hong Kong superstars Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng find love on the slimmer side in the classic comedy Love on a Diet! Mini Mo (Cheng) is a vastly overweight sweetheart who wants to shed more than a few pounds to impress her first love, and turns to the equally gargantuan Biggie (Lau) for help. Can he take her down a few sizes before she finally meets her true love? This blockbuster comedy from Johnnie To and Wai Ka Fai is as laugh-out-loud enjoyable and charming as Hong Kong movies get!

Nice comedy love story Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is shot in Japan. It's a story of two heavy weight people who destined to meet.

They encourage each other to diet for a purpose. The girl because of her desire to meet again a boyfriend but unfortunately cannot because of her body. Andy Lau playing ad friend who encourage her to lose weight in the end, Andy loses weight. This love story is really good. Comedy yet touching. It's a movie you won't really regret watching.

Different cover, same movie Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I personally think that the movie is great. Though there weren't any problems playing the disc, I was quite disappointed that I received the DVD with a completely DIFFERENT COVER (different photo)!

This difference in appearance actually makes the DVD look like a cheap boot-leg. Nevertheless, the disc plays fine. Beware that you might not get what you see on this website.

Lots of fun! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Love on a Diet" succeeds for two big reasons -- Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng. Andy and Sammi throw themselves into their roles with such charming abandon that the viewer is swept up into rooting for them. They impart a sweetness to the film that brings a smile to my face whenever I recall this movie.

Andy Lau really had to play against type. He could not fall back on his good looks, his suave style, his romantic image, etc. Yet, through the layers of make-up and padding, he creates a believable, good-natured character that truly is loveable. And Sammi, too, manages to let her comic gifts shine.

A hint to the success of the film appears in the special features. We learn that Andy and Sammi were forced by all of the layers of fake fat to play their parts very broadly in order for the audience to perceive their emotions. I suspect that this acting style led to a lack of self-consciousness that freed them up to give truly sincere and effective performances.

I recommend "Love on a Diet" to everyone. Trust me, you'll have a good time!

good movie Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I love Sammi and Andy movies, they're usually very good and this is no exception. They are in Japan for this one and both are overweight and want to be skinny again. This is a good story and is worth buying.
