Slow but engaging romantic comedy
Slow but engaging romantic comedy
"Love Parade" stars Lin Dai as a beauteous young doctor and Chen Ho as the successful fashion designer with whom she falls in love. Of course, this being a comedy of sorts, there are several twists and turns of the plot before the feuding couple discovers that they love each other. After their hurried wedding, the comedy revolves around Lin and Chen's inability to consummate their marriage due to unending interruptions. The endless delays soon turn into misunderstandings that threaten to break up the newlyweds. Will the lovely Lin and the dashing Chen ever have a chance to, well, you know what...
Lin Dai charms as the bookish, bespectacled doctor; Chen Ho suits his self-confident designer role to a T. King Ho as Lin's old suitor and Gao Bao Shu as Chen's employer are terrific and pretty Shih Yen gives the movie much-needed energy. Unfortunately, "Love Parade" has some major problems. Its script is short on wit and the pacing of the dialogue is much too slow for a movie of this kind. Most bizarrely, just as the movie is reaching its climax, the filmmakers inserted a fashion show that lasts for over 13 minutes, stopping the story dead in its tracks! Ultimately, the fashion show becomes a device for resolving the story, but at least ten minutes could have been chopped out of it. Happily, the wordless means by which the story is resolved is very creative and the final shot is perfect. Flawed as it is, fans of Lin and Dai will enjoy "Love Parade". |

Not Tao Chin's Better Efforts
Lin Dai was not at all convincing as a lady doctor. Her normal comic talent doesn't seem to surface here and she acts rather stiffly, possibly due to a poorly written character. Peter Chen Ho on the other hand, is up to his usual comic flare. The movie seems formularic and lacks heart. Unless one is a great Lin Dai fan, I would suggest that you skip this one. |

Y...a..a..wn......
The tempo of this movie is so...ooo slow and the models are so stiff and unsmiling. A disappointing comedy despite Chen Hou's excellent effort. The songs are the only redeeming value of the whole movie and by the way, I believe the singer is Gu Mei and not Jing Ting! |

Bravo! !
This is a first-rate comedy. Lam Doi vs. Chen Hou, plus supporting roles King Hu and Shih Yen, delivered smooth and delighted performance. |
