Renowned K-Drama producer and director Yoon Suk Ho lifted the Korean Wave to new heights in the early oughties with his "Four Season" series of Autumn in My Heart, Winter Sonata, Summer Scent, and Spring Waltz. He brings back the pure love melodrama in 2012 with the KBS drama Love Rain. Set in the seventies and the present day, the beautifully lensed series tells a heartrending love story over two generations, with Korean Wave superstar Jang Keun Suk and Girls' Generation member Im Yoon A playing dual roles.

It's love at first sight when In Ha (Jang Keun Suk) and Yoon Hee (Yoon A) meet as shy university students in the seventies. It takes time for the hesitant pair to finally voice their feelings, but circumstances beyond their control send them down different paths. In 2012, In Ha's son Seo Joon (Jang Keun Suk) and Yoon Hee's daughter Ha Na (Yoon A) bump into each other by chance. Even as they argue over a mix-up, they can't help but be drawn to each other. Will the bittersweet love story that began in the seventies find a different ending in the present day?

Jung Jin Young and Lee Mi Sook play the older versions of In Ha and Yoon Hee in 2012. Love Rain also co-stars Son Eun Soo (Flames of Ambition), singer Seo In Guk (Answer Me 1997), Kim Si Hoo (The Secret of Keu Keu Island), Hwang Bo Ra (Arang and the Magistrate), Kim Young Kwang (White Christmas), and Park Se Young (The Equator Man).

This edition features with the director's cut of the drama. It comes with outtakes, top ten highlights from the drama, and stills gallery.

 Not what it's cracked up to be.... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I was very excited to see what I assumed was a complete (and extended) version on one of my favorite kdramas available on this site. I was hesitant to spend so much money on DVDs which I was not sure were accurately translated. I bit the bullet and shelled out the large sum (around $170 with express shipping. As standard shipping does not give you a tracking code).

As soon as the discs arrived I popped them in my player to check to see that they worked properly. I was pleased to see that they in fact did work properly. I am also pleased to announce that the translations are fairly spot on with the other translations I've seen (Dramafever, viki, etc). The menus and features were also a huge bonus. Additionally it comes with a beautiful booklet with photos from the series. Another extra is what I have since come to learn is the script to the 1st episode (warning-in Korean, not English). All of these bonuses seemed to be well worth the price....

Now comes the fly in the ointment... It was my understanding that this is a director's cut addition. I was pumped to see what deleted/extended scenes hd been added. In the first few episodes I did see a few. However, I soon came to notice that the episodes seemed shorter than normal. The standard episodes usually run around 63-67 minutes. MANY of these episodes have been cut down to 50 minutes. If you've seen this dama on tv or online you too will notice that the missing scenes are important and quite relevant to the plot. This truly irked me! I feel that if I've paid $170 I deserve not only the extended/deleted scenes but the scenes that were initially aired on tv/online.

I wish there had been at least one review available before I placed my order. Had I known the missing content of this disc set I would have refrained from ordering. Buyer beware! I highly suggest waiting for YA Entertainment to release their version. The YA version may not have the bonus scenes but will surely give you the original content with fairly good translations. I really hope that this review will be of use to anyone considering spending such a large sum on this drama!
