YesAsia Editorial Description

Thirty years ago, a movie called Lonely Fifteen (a.k.a. Fish Ball Girls) shocked Hong Kong with its brutally honest look at troubled teenagers. Now, the story continues with a new generation of Hong Kong girls in May We Chat. Written and directed by the Golden Horse Award-nominated Philip Yung (Port of Call), the film tells the story of three girls from different backgrounds, who for a variety of reasons have all fallen into compensated dating, and features appearances by Lonely Fifteen stars Irene Wan and Robert Mak.

Yat Kei (Rainky Wai) is a deaf teenager who lives with her grandmother. Wai Wai (Heidi Lee) comes from a poor family and must shoulder the burden of taking care of her addict mother and young sister. Yan (Kabby Hui) hails from a wealthy family. Life holds little excitement for her, until the day she finds her first love – or so she thinks. These three girls have all fallen into the world of compensated dating, but, having forged a strong friendship via social networking, they can count on each other through thick and thin. So when Yan mysteriously disappears, Yat Kei and Wai Wai immediately resolve to find her, no matter what it takes.

Product Information

Made in 1982, Lonely Fifteen was a critically acclaimed neorealist drama about the lives of several wayward young girls who fall into the dangerous world of prostitution. Over two decades later. The Way We Are writer Lou Shiu-wa and Glamorous Youthe director Philip Yung team up for a new chapter of the story. Set in the generation of smarttphones and web 2.0, the film follows three troubled young girls who will do anything to escape their stifling lives – even if it means turning to drugs and prostitution. The advent of technology may have made communication easier than ever, but cautionary tales of misunderstood youths remain as relevant as they were two decades ago.
