 Beautiful, captivating anime Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
"Millennium Actress" is a beautifully illustrated and intricate look back at an elderly actress's life-long search for her long-lost love.

The movie is told through a truly unique narrative style. A documentary filmmaker travels to her home to make a movie of her life story. As she tells about her life, her story is illustrated through scenes from her many movies, with the documentary filmmaker and his cameraman showing up as witnesses and sometimes as participants.

At first, this story-telling device seemed to distance the viewer from the narrative, but in the film's second half, the viewer gets swept up in the actress's search for her love.

Through the device of telling the story through scenes of the actress's movies, we get to see episodes -- and beautiful costuming -- from throughout Japanese history. I haven't seen anything else quite like this movie and I can recommend it very highly to a general audience.

Slow moving anime. Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
The introduction was quite interesting and it gave us the notion that it's going to use flashbacks throughout the movie. But Millennium Actress is not as confusing as Tale of Two Sisters.

The movie is about Chiyoko herself, telling the director the stories of her life. Coincidently, the director is obsessed about Chiyoko for reasons known during the second half of the movie.

Flashbacks are used while she tells her stories beginning when she was a budding actress till her woman-age life. The storyline wasn't too my liking, as it was quite short and simple.

Although Chiyoko's teenage character was quite naive and oblivious, what dissapoints me the most was she didn't change over time.
