YesAsia Editorial Description
Nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 80th Academy Awards, Mongol chronicles the early life of one of the greatest conquerors in history - Genghis Khan. This epic joint production from Russia, Germany, and Kazakhstan is directed by award-winning Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov, and stars acclaimed Japanese actor Asano Tadanobu in the role of Temudgin, the man who would become Genghis Khan. Shot completely in the Mongol language amid Central Asia's sweeping grasslands and endless deserts, Mongol offers a fascinating revisionist profile of a man that everyone knew, but few understood.
Defying common perceptions of Genghis Khan, Asano Tadanobu underacts to great effect, painting a deliberate man of few words and quiet demeanor who spends must of his early life trying to survive, rather than conquer, his enemies. After the murder of his father, the young Temudgin, who was next in line to rule, is thrown into a life of persecution and exile. The wheels of fate bring him to slavery, imprisonment, and crossed swords with his sworn brother, charismatically portrayed by Chinese actor Sun Honglei (Blood Brothers), but nothing can sway him from his true destiny or the unyielding love and loyalty of his wife.

Complete Disgrace
Complete Disgrace
Movie about Mongolian Emperor made jointly by Russia, Germany and Kazakhstan? Complete joke is what it is. This disgraceful crap was shut down next day after it opened in Mongolia so go figure. Do not buy. We mongolians have sooooo much better movies about Chinggis Khaan and they have subtitles too. So watch and buy and support that movie rather than this crap. EWWWWW. Hated it so much that I stopped actually in the middle. The acting was so sad, laughable and painful to watch. That japanese actor is a complete joke. If you can't ride a horse properly, then you shouldn't be in a Mongolian movie, period. The stage, the setting, and custom design ...... reallyyyy? So poor, it's like a home-made movie done by teenagers to get into a movie school. |
