Ning Hao produces the black comedy My Dear Liar, which is part of his production company Dirty Monkey Studio's 72 Transformations Film Project to nurture and develop young filmmakers. Following Brotherhood of Blades 2: The Infernal Battlefield and Dying to Survive, writer-director Shen Ao's My Dear Liar continues the project's promising slate with a Chongqing-set comedy about two swindlers unfurling a dark marriage scam – but their would-be victim may be more than they can handle.

Wu Hai (Da Peng, I Am Not Madame Bovary), the father of an asthmatic six-year-old son, runs small scams with his longtime friend Zhenjiang (Zhang Zixian, Us and Them) to make money. However, when both find themselves in urgent need of a large payout, Zhenjiang pushes for a bigger and bolder scheme. Posing as a well-off executive, Wu Hai approaches online streamer Miaomiao (Liu Yan, Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy) and woos her with gifts until she agrees to marry him. Then he asks her to sign an insurance for which he is the beneficiary.
