The television adaptation marks Joo Won's first costume drama and also his last drama before enlisting in military service. Knowledgeable yet cold-hearted Kyun Woo (Joo Won) returns to Joseon after three years of study in Qing China. One night, he saves drunken princess Hye Myung (Oh Yeon Seo), who is in dispute with a cart driver. Growing suspicious that Kyun Woo stole her ring, Hye Myung forces him to help find the ring. Kyun Woo soon becomes the Prince's teacher, and discovers Hye Myung's real identity and the truth behind the deposition of her mother Queen Han.
