Liu Xiaoqing, most famous for her role as the Empress Dowager in historical epics, once again takes up a fascinating role in a drama set in the 18th Century. Hong Kong comedian Dicky Cheung, having amused so many Hong Kong fans, brings his unique humor to this Mainland TV production. Also in the cast are award-winning actor Patrick Tam (Best Supporting Actor winner for Born Wild) and the gorgeous girl Rain Li (On the Edge). Famous variety show host Hu Ke plays Dicky Cheung's wife in the drama.

Dicky Cheung is a rich man's son who loses everything, including his wife (Hu Ke), to his enemy. He drifts in different cities in China, and encounters a pretty acrobatic girl (Rain Li). While his business revives, a government official (Patrick Tam) is after him because he robs some treasures from a tomb. This prodigal son has never imagined that the official after him is indeed his half-brother, and they are sons to a royal princess (Liu Xiaoqing)!

　陳大有（張衛健 飾）出身於富裕之家，娶得如花似玉的妻子倩雯（胡可 飾），看上來他的生活一帆風順，但他囂張的氣焰維持了不久後，命運突然起了巨大的變化。因著他跟宿敵柳原的意氣之爭，他一下子失去了所有的家財及心愛的妻子，與此同時，他的父親在彌留時透露，他原是從觀音廟撿回來的孤兒。

　大有頃刻間一無所有，他後悔莫及，求妻原諒並誓言在限期前把她贖回。可惜他被誤當賊匪，更被大官納蘭正（譚耀文 飾）重判死刑，大有唯有走上逃亡之路。幸虧他得到雜技團班主幫忙，才得以逃離官府的追緝，同時他亦與班主的女兒希兒（李彩樺 飾）成了好友。

　經過多翻波折後，大有終於成功贖回自己的愛妻。不過，倩雯卻被柳原污辱了並懷有他的骨肉，最後她更因難產而離世，留下大有及初生的嬰孩。大有此刻陷入最困惑的時候，他弄不清自己與那孩子的關係，幾經掙扎，他最後決定將他撫養成人。

　往後的日子，兩人一直過着刻苦的生活。機緣巧合地，大有與珍格格（劉曉慶 飾）成為好友，而她正是大官納蘭正的母親。大有再次遇上納蘭正，更引發起一場爭鬥。希兒為了救大有，不惜犧牲性命，大有此時只好脅持珍格格以逃離納蘭正的追捕。在這危急關頭，珍格格向大有說了一個改變他一生的秘密…。那個秘密究竟是什麼呢？他又如何平息對納蘭正的怨恨呢？
