In recent years, K-pop powerhouse SM Entertainment has put considerable effort into diversifying K-pop style through its "New Culture Technology" project, which aims to promote innovative K-pop music to the world. As part of the project, NCT, which includes the subunit NCT 127 formed by Tae Il, Tae Yong, Jae Hyun, Mark, Yuta, WinWin and Hae Chan, sets a new K-pop trend through their debut mini-album NCT #127.
The title track "Fire Truck" (Track 1) is a thrilling Moombahton-rhythm number influenced by hip-hop and trap music. Though it lacks a catchy melody, its addictive beats make it a strong debut song for the group. Tae Il and Hae Chan's honeyed vocals don't match the song's funky style but they perfectly express the sweet and relaxing feeling of Once Again (Track 2). Accompanied by lively brass tunes that evoke a romantic picture of a young couple playing on a beach at sunset, the smooth R&B song starkly contrasts with the other chic and futuristic tracks. However, it provides an opportunity for Tae Il and Hae Chan to fully exhibit their singing talents. The future pop dance number Another World (Track 3) is the only track that can maintain NCT's unique funkiness while having a memorable melody. Jae Hyun, Mark and Tae Yong perform an exciting rap relay which creates tension for the song. The tension further builds up with the crescendo siren synth effects and the repeated hook "I don't wanna feel nothing." The frenzy of excitement suddenly calms down in the smooth chorus, making the song even more attractive. The hip-hop jam Mad City (Track 6) is a pure rap song tailor-made for Tae Yong and Mark. Backed by simple yet compelling pluck synth sounds, the two rappers' powerful and wild rap style fits the song perfectly. Tae Yong has excellent control over his vocal tone and dynamics, which vary according to the song's emotions. Though Mark also has exceptional rapping skills, his raps are not as flexible as Tae Yong's. Formed by unlimited music talents, NCT is a highly flexible group that can easily adapt to ever-changing music trends and explore new styles by mixing different genres. For their first music cocktail, the fusion style of NCT #127 is really cool, but the overly beat-oriented songs are not catchy enough due to the lack of impressive tunes. In addition, since too much spotlight is put on the rappers, the vocalists can hardly exhibit their vocal power. Nonetheless, while NCT #127 is not perfect, it is still strong enough as a debut album. |

| I'm amazed how perfect this album is. It's a real pleasure to listen. My favourite tracks are: Mad city, Wake up ad Fire truck but all the songs are perfect. |

| This came fast, in 8 days. The packaging was nice and even tho the album is really simple the tracklist is amazing, my favourite is wake up ^^ I'd recommend this to everybody. |
