YesAsia Editorial Description

The dynamite screen couple of Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng make magic in Needing You, a blockbuster romantic comedy from directors Johnny To and Wai Ka Fai! Andy (Andy Lau) is a womanizing sales manager at an HK electronics firm, who finds his life embroiled in office politics and gossip when he gets involved in the life of Kinki (Sammi Cheng), a kooky office lady who's emotionally daffy but genuinely delightful. Kinki is an odd, but pure-hearted girl whose weird ways initially annoy Andy. But her genuine personality and work ethic win him over, until Andy's ex-girlfriend Fiona (Fiona Leung) shows up looking to rekindle their romance. Seeing that Kinki's in the picture, Fiona gets handsome Internet mogul Roger (Raymond Wong) to distract her. Will Andy discover that he needs Kinki before it's too late?

The highest-grossing Hong Kong film of 2000, Needing You charms with charismatic performances and delightful romantic situations. Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng make a lovable screen couple, and directors Johnny To and Wai Ka Fai create a wildly entertaining romance with surprising style and winning comedy. Needing You was beloved by critics as well as audiences, and scored nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay. Sammi Cheng received Best Actress nominations at both the Hong Kong Film Awards and The Golden Horse Awards for her charming, star-making performance.

This version comes with special features like trailer, making-of, behind-the-scenes, outtakes, and interviews.

You need "Needing You" Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Needing You", for its first seventy minutes, is a nearly flawless workplace romantic comedy featuring two of Hong Kong's most bankable stars. Sammi Cheng plays Kinki Kwok, a faceless paper-pusher for a sales company at which Andy Cheung (Andy Lau) reigns as master of the sales universe. Andy, in the wake of a divorce, has become a relentless womanizer. Kinki is relentlessly needy, a walking, whining trainwreck when it comes to relationships. When a conflict arises between Andy and his chief sales rival Martin (Lam Suet), Kinki's encyclopedic knowledge of paperwork protocol bails Andy out of trouble and encourages Andy to begin relying more often upon Kinki's assistance.

Their closer working relationship sets the office abuzz with rumors of a romance, but Andy, when he is not paying for prostitutes, is being pursued by his ex-wife Fiona (Fiona Leung). Kinki is mired in relationship hell with her cheating boyfriend Dan (Gabriel Harrison). But who's kidding who -- the chemistry between Andy and Kinki is unmistakable. The film brilliantly mines the comic possibilities of deal-making in Shenzhen, office gossip, Andy giving relationship advice to Kinki, etc.

Alas, things begin to go off the rails in the film's final half-hour when Andy and Fiona set Kinki up on a blind date with Roger Young (Raymond Wong), who just happens to be an internet billionaire. Put aside the improbability that a handsome young billionaire would need to be set up on a blind date. Out of the blue we learn that Kinki is a deeply knowledgeable motorcycle enthusiast who loves to ride fast; given what we know of Kinki, this doesn't add up. The plot then goes haywire with another nonsensical office conflict, as the filmmakers abandon all logic in order to delay the inevitable ending.

Fortunately, even when the filmmakers have lost their way, Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng remain a delight to watch. "Needing You" ends up telling two tales that end up at the same destination, with Kinki growing from a needy loser into a confident and desirable woman and Andy finding his true self in his devotion to the woman he loves. You definitely need to see "Needing You".

I brought this long time ago forgot to leave my comment. This is a great love story movie, after watching it I feel so cheerful. It's a comedy and some romance, Sammi's character as Kinki is very unique, is kind of funny too. I love the part where Andy teach Sammi how to seduce his boyfriend, it's so cute, Sammi looks so pretty.

Sammi and Andy are good together. Good storyline, plot, actors and probably one of the best Andy Sammi movies. This movie can be sad and funny at times which made it one of the best Chinese movies in my opinion. I'd give this movie an A-.

Good Romantic Comedy Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This is a good romantic comedy about two people who have had failed love relationships, working together and falling in love. Kinki already had 3 boyfriends who all lied and cheated on her, now her 4th boyfriend is lying and cheating behind her back too. Andy is a manager and he is divorced, also he has an unrequited love and that person (Leung Pui Ling) is in an unhappy marriage and wants to have a love affair with him. Kinki and Andy work together, they start to get to know each other, and even help each other out with their personal problems. I like the part when Andy goes for motorcycle lessons to impress Kinki because he is jealous that she likes a rich guy named Roger who can drive a motorcycle and has a huge collection of motorcycles. And there is a scene of double-Andy, one is Andy the manager and the other is "Wah Dee" -- Andy gets on a motorcycle and reprises his role as Wah Dee from "A Moment of Romance", this scene was only for a few seconds. It was really cool. Another funny part of the movie is when Kinki goes on a wild shopping spree at the mall and discovers her 4th boyfriend is cheating on her. Later, Andy helps her to get revenge on this guy.

A very good romantic comedy. Sammi and Andy have very good on-screen chemistry. I think they make a cute couple.
