YesAsia Editorial Description
Two of the small screen's recent breakout actors, Seo In Guk (Master's Sun) and Lee Jong Suk (I Hear Your Voice) take their star power to the silver screen in the youth sports film No Breathing co-starring Girls' Generation member Kwon Yu Ri. Directed by Jo Yong Sun, the coming-of-age flick is set in the chest-baring world of competitive swimming and youth rivalry.
Seo In Guk stars as unkempt and impetuous swimming prodigy Won Il, a former juvenile champion who quit the sport after his parents' deaths. Lee Jong Suk is Woo Sang, an aloof top swimmer who just got suspended from the national team for fighting. One lazily affable, the other overly competitive, but both with chips on their shoulders, Won Il and Woo Sang end up at the same sports high school where they have to start anew in swimming.

Won-Il used to be a promising swimmer like his championship swimmer father. After his father's death from a swim competition, where he was doing his specialty called "No Breathing", his mother also passed away.
Since then, he can never forgive his father and quits swimming for good. Living like there is no tomorrow with his easy-going attitude, Won-Il seems hopeless. When he is being dropped out of school, his father's longtime friend Jae-Suk drags him to get into a physical education high school to start swimming again.
There he meets his long-ago rival, Woo-Sang who was always overshadowed by Won-Il. With Won-Il's absence, Woo-Sang took up the first place and grew up to be the national swim star. He is completely opposite to Won-Il in that all he cares is winning. Woo-Sang is disqualified as national athlete by getting into a trouble and starts from ground zero at the same phys-ed school as Won-Il.
Won-Il's return is unwelcomed by Woo-Sang but Won-Il does not care. Then there is Jae-Suk's daughter, Jung-Eun who captures both Won-Il and Woo-Sang's hearts and reignites the rivalry between the two.
The two very different restless youths start on the swimming competition for the love and friendship which is in fact, the rite of passage to growing up.

Yuri (sigh), family matters and....lottsa food
Yuri (sigh), family matters and....lottsa food
‘No Breathing’ - although you might feel like no eating after watching Won Il (In Guk Seo) rapidly stuffing his face on overdrive - is a K-TV drama type movie about two male youths and their reckless lives and unresolved family problems, but balanced out with a good deal of wit and pretty people (and lots of food) to uplift and smooth out the plot. In Guk and Jong Suk carry parts well. Yuri does her loveliest, too, as Won Il’s long time chum Jeong-eun but doesn’t get much solid acting time. Early days though. In fact Yuri ought to be a Marvel type Lox Super Girl with her lovely long tresses.
The title refers to a ‘no breathing’ swimming tactic that Won Il’s s father utilized to enable him to become a much faster championship swimmer. But the trick of holding his breath to gain speed back fires and Won Il’s father dies in a swimming race competition. Won Il already resentful of his dad never spending quality time with Won Il, due to his dad’s vigorous swimming training schedules and amplified by the death of his mother, likens his dad’s death as the finality of ‘neglect’. Won Il also a swimming champion quits after his dad’s death. But Jae-seok (Cheol-min Park), Won Il’s swimming coach and trainer of Won Il’s late father, looks after Won Il and vows to honour Won Il’s father by encouraging Won Il into the 2012 SK Olympic swimming team. To do this Jea-seok bends the ear of his coach friend Jang (Jeong-cheol Park) to take Won Il into his Seoul Sports School team. Jea-seok becomes a second father to Won Il hoping one day Won Il will accept the truth that his late father truly loved his son. But angry at his father, Won Il refuses to honour his dad’s death anniversary, but reluctantly attends the training in Jang’s team. There he meets the aloof Woo Sang (Jong Suk) also having family dad problems by his strict upbringing, and as both Won Il and Woo Sang have also been expelled from their respective schools for fighting, are to make amends at the Seoul Sports School. Won Il also meets two other swimmers Jeong-dong (Min-cheul Shin) and Dae-chan (Jae-yeong Kim) who form a team bond ship (especially helping Won Il eat his much needed nosh) but find their posteriors are at the constant mercy of strict coach Jang (Jeong-cheol Park) when Won Il’s two new mates get him drunk. On the lighter note Jea-seok’s daughter Jeong-eun (Yuri) becomes the love interest to both Won Il and Woo Sang. Edition includes a slim full page photo book and a region ALL DVD. |
