Happiness is a road, not a destination.
Written and directed by Sung Hsin Yin, On Happiness Road won Best Animation Feature at the 55th Golden Horse Awards and the Grand Prize, Audience Award and Best Animation at the 20th Taipei Film Awards. Featuring voice acting by Gwei Lun Mei, Wei Te Sheng, Chen Bo Zheng and Liao Hui Chun, the warm and nostalgic animation follows a woman's return to Taiwan after years abroad and her memories of childhood and coming of age. On Happiness Road is both a bittersweet love letter to Taiwan and an intimate yet universal story about growing up, looking back and forging forward on the bumpy road of life.
Lin Shu Chi (voiced by Gwei Lun Mei) was born in Taiwan, on April 5, 1975, the same day that Chiang Kai-shek passed way. As a child, she lived on Happiness Road and dreamed of changing the world. After she grew up, she didn't change the world but her dream would eventually take her far from home to the U.S. Years later, she returns to Taipei upon news of her grandmother's death, and reflects on how people and places have changed and not changed over the years.
