When Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997, the tagline for continuity was that "the horses would keep running", a testament to the importance of horseracing (and horse gambling) in Hong Kong. This revered pastime is the focus of the 2001 TVB drama On the Track or Off starring top actors Steven Ma and Ada Choi. On the Track or Off is actually TVB's second drama to tackle the theme of horseracing, but unlike the money and powerplay of 1993's Racing Peak, On the Track or Off concentrates on the horse trainers and jockeys, the dreams and stories of the people who dedicate their lives to the race tracks.

On the Track or Off follows a good-natured aspiring horse trainer played by Steven Ma as he pursues his ultimate dream, but the journey is filled with both professional and personal trials and tribulations. Other than the popular pairing of Steven Ma and Ada Choi, the drama co-stars Frankie Lam, Bondy Chiu, Derek Kwok, John Tang, and Shek Sau making his TVB comeback. Real-life jockey Yu Wing Sze also took on a major role in the drama as a rookie jockey, lending greater authenticity to the story.

It is a good show Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I like the topic. It is a refreshing story. I also got this show because I like Steven Ma. I have never seen his shows
until this year. So far, I have seen three of them and he is very good in each of them. I like him
the best in Perish in the name of love. He was such a devoted lover and honorable person. Who would have
known he could be such a funny person in the matching makng show ? And again he did not disappoint in this horse
business show. I look forward to seeing him in more future show.

i love this series! totally love steven ma & ada choi! though bondy is bad here, i also like her portrayal. this series is very realistic in some aspects. shows us how one's ambition can bring you to the top, but also bring you down. a must watch!
