The film starts with Jean-Baptiste Grenouille's (Ben Whishaw) birth in a filthy and smelly fish market. He has a talent for recognizing and differentiating smells, and becomes obsessed with preserving each and every smell he comes across - in particular, those of female bodies. He learns to mix perfumes from Baldini (Dustin Hoffman) and soon surpasses his master's skills. He then goes to famous perfume town Grasse where he develops the techniques to preserve the scent of a woman, even at the expense of killing her! After eleven murders in Grasse, businessman Richis (Alan Rickman) takes his daughter Laura (Rachel Hurd-Wood), famous for her beauty, to a secluded monastery as he is afraid Laura will become the next victim. However, Grenouille has no difficulties locating her as he can just follow Laura's scent...

1738年，Jean-Baptiste Grenouille（賓韋沙飾）於巴黎一個魚市場呱呱落地，天生沒有體味的他，嗅覺卻極度敏銳。童年坎坷的他住過孤兒院、在環境惡劣的皮革廠做過童工後，輾轉間被香水師Baldini（德斯汀荷夫曼飾）賞識，並開始學習調製香水。Grenouille混合香味的技巧很快已青出於藍，但他心底裏最迷戀的其實是女性體香，這種欲望更令他不能自拔，每次碰到氣味叫他心儀的女性，他都會把她殺死，然後用她製成香水！

為了尋求一支最終極、最完美的香水，Grenouille前往法國著名「香水之都」格拉斯（Grasse）。途中他遇上體味異常動人的Laura（麗歌賀活飾），決意要把她的獨特氣味收進香水內，永遠只供他一人獨享。

另一邊廂，Laura的商人父親Richis（阿倫力文飾）留意到十二個年輕少女連環被殺的消息，深怕自己女兒的生命亦受到威脅。他帶着Laura逃到地中海一間偏僻臨海旅館，但Grenouille卻毫不費力跟隨著Laura的香氣而至......

Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (BEN WHISHAW) is born in undignified circumstances at the Paris fish market in 1738. At a very early age he realises he has a very refined sense of smell. After surviving the murderous working conditions of the tannery in his youth, Grenouille starts an apprenticeship at the perfumery of Baldini (DUSTIN HOFFMAN). He soon surpasses his master at the art of mixing scents, but they also become his obsession, an obsession that drives him away from human company. Possessed by the idea of preserving human aromas, he unscrupulously murders young women whose scent turns his head. The drama takes its course when Grenouille meets the beautiful Laura (RACHEL HURD-WOOD), who for him has a supernatural kind of scent, on the way to the perfume metropolis, Grasse. While further unexplained murders occur, Laura's father, the merchant Richis (ALAN RICKMAN), suspects that his daughter's life is also in great danger. A real cat-and-mouse game of close fatherly love and deadly passion begins...
