Captured into slavery, Chu Qiao (Zanilia Zhao) and other girls of similar plight are brought to a desert filled with wolves and hunted like prey by a party of nobles and royals. As the lone survivor of the brutal hunting game, she becomes a lowly servant in the manor of master swordsman Yuwen Yue (Lin Gengxin), the solemn gatekeeper of the Emperor's secret intelligence network. Chu Qiao, who suffers from memory loss, re-encounters her adoptive siblings at the Yuwen manor and vows to protect them. Keeping her true feelings hidden, she thinks of revenge and survival while navigating the dangers of a cruel world in which the poor and weak are abused and sacrificed without a second thought.

With her strong mind, quick learning skills and superior fighting instincts, Chu Qiao soon draws the interest of not only Yuwen Yue, but also Yan Xun (Shawn Dou), the free-spirited son of the Duke of Northern Yan. Yuwen Yue and Chu Qiao develop an ambiguous bond as he trains and grooms her into a spy assassin, but Yan Xun hopes to take her away to freedom. However, the Emperor grows increasingly suspicious of Yan Xun's father by the day, and eventually cracks down on the Yan clan in devastating manner. With Chu Qiao supporting Yan Xun's plan for insurrection and Yuwen Yue staying loyal to the throne, the two find themselves on opposite sides of a burgeoning revolution.
