Ayano Go stars as a ronin swordsman with superhuman-like skills in maverick director Ishii Gakuryu and screenwriter Kudo Kankuro's live-action adaptation of Akutagawa Prize-winning writer Machida Go's 2004 novel Punk Samurai Slash Down. Previously adapted into stage plays in 2006 and 2009, Punk Samurai Slash Down depicts how hero Kakiri Junoshin gets drawn into conflicts by his own doing. Though set in the Edo period, the popular story features modern colloquial language and humor as well as unique characters and an inventive plot.

Besides Ayano Go, the film version of Punk Samurai boasts the all-star cast of Kitagawa Keiko, Higashide Masahiro, Sometani Shota, Asana Tadanobu, Murakami Jun, Wakaba Ryuya, Kondo Koen, Shibukawa Kiyohiko, Kunimura Jun and Toyokawa Etushi. The production crew is also top of the line with Onoue Katsuro (Shin Godzilla) in charge of special effects, Hayashida Yuji (13 Assassins) on art direction, and Sawataishi Kazuhiro (Rurouni Kenshin) on character and costume design.
