[ストーリー]
仏教寺院の跡継ぎをめぐる権力闘争に、秘伝の巻物の争奪戦を交えた間諜アクション。／死期が近いことを悟った三宝寺の僧正は、自分の跡継ぎを決めるために相談役として、大地主のウェン、軍人のワン将軍、さらに全ての煩悩から解脱したと言われる高僧ウーワイ法師を呼び寄せた。しかしウェンとワン将軍には下心があった。この機に乗じて寺に伝わる三蔵法師直筆の経典を奪い取ろうとしていたのだ。僧正の後継者の座を狙う第一弟子の慧通はワン将軍と、第二弟子の慧文はウェンと手を結び、それぞれが自分を後継者として推挙してもらうかわりに、経典を盗み出す手助けをするという裏取引を結んでいた。そんな中、無実の罪を着せられ出家を命ぜられたチウミンが寺にやってくる……。
