Directed by Hao Feihuan, the Chinese crime film Records Without Words unfurls a twisty murder mystery in rural China in the 1990s. Zhang Yu (An Elephant Sitting Still) won Best Actor at the Pingyao International Film Festival for his performance in this small-town mystery that delves into the dark side of human nature.
Li Lizhong is the captain of Pingxi Town's security team that is in charge of local public safety. Li's father dies unexpectedly due to unknown reasons. At the same time, a strange serial dog killing case occurs in town. Using rather rough methods, Li leads the team to conduct an investigation. In the process, Li discovers that the dog killing case is closely related to the death of his father.
