Directed by Yazaki Hitoshi (A Cappella), Sakura is based on Nishi Kanako's same-titled Naoki Prize-winning novel about an ordinary family's struggles with grief and despair. Kitamura Takumi, Komatsu Nana, Yoshizawa Ryo, Terajima Shinobu and Nagase Masatoshi make up the family at the center of the stirring story.

Kaoru (Kitamura Takumi) returns to his parents' home after receiving news that his father (Nagase Masatoshi), who has been out of touch for two years, would be returning. Seeing his mother (Terajima Shinobu), his sister Miki (Komatsu Nana) and their dog Sakura again brings up memories of the past. Back then, when his older brother Hajime (Yoshizawa Ryo) was still around, they were a happy family of five. Then one day, a car accident changed everything, and their family would never be the same again.
