Arimura Kasumi and Sakaguchi Kentaro go through the ups and downs of love, loss, separation and reunion over years of growth and changes in the drama Soshike, Ikiru. Directed by Tsukikawa Sho, the six-episode drama aired on WOWOW in summer 2019. This film version of Soshite, Ikiru is a 135-minute feature-length cut of the story.

After losing her parents at a young age, Ikuta Toko (Arimura Kasumi) grew up in Morioka under the loving care of her uncle (Mitsuishi Ken), a barber. Toko works sometimes as a local idol and model in her small town, but hopes to become an actress. She nervously decides to audition in Tokyo, but the Great Tohuku earthquake on March 11, 2011, disrupts her plans. Later that year, Toko and her friend Yuri (Kang Ji Young) go to volunteer in an area devastated by the earthquake. There, she meets student volunteer group leader Shimizu Kiyotaka (Sakaguchi Kentaro), who attends university in Tokyo. More similar than they realize, the two naturally develop feelings for each other in their time together, but life's cruel turns and misunderstandings pull them apart just as naturally.

[ストーリー]
３歳のときに交通事故で両親を亡くした生田瞳子（有村架純）は、盛岡で理髪店を営む伯父に引き取られる。／天真爛漫に育った瞳子は、時に地元のアイドルとして活躍することもあり、いつしか女優を志すようになっていた。／そして１９歳になった瞳子は、東京で開催されるオーディションに挑もうとするが、その前日の２０１１年３月１１日、東日本大震災が起きる。／その年の秋—、瞳子はカフェで一緒に働いている韓国人のハン（知英）とともに、気仙沼のボランティア活動に参加する。／瞳子はそこで、学生ボランティア団体の運営メンバーである東京の大学生・清水清隆（坂口健太郎）と出会う。／穏やかで整然と現場を取り仕切る清隆だったが、瞳子はなぜか彼のほほえみに違和感を覚える。清隆自身もまた過酷な運命を背負っていることを、瞳子は知る由もなかった。／そして気仙沼で一緒の時間を過ごした瞳子と清隆は、いつしか互いに特別な感情を抱いていく—。
