One Hitoshi (Bakuman) transplants the blockbuster 2011 Korean comedy-drama Sunny to Japan in Sunny: Our Hearts Beat Together! Split between 2018 and the nineties, the film revolves around the friendship of six girls, then and now. Take a walk down memory lane to school days filled with teen adventures and the music and trends of the nineties! Hirose Suzu, Yamamoto Maika, Tanabe Momoko, Noda Mio, Tomita Miu and Ikeda Elaiza play the Sunny girls in their younger days while Shinohara Ryoko, Itaya Yuka, Tomosaka Rie, Koike Eiko and Watanabe Naomi play their counterparts in the present day. Miura Haruma and Lily Franky also appear in the film.

Housewife Nami (Shinohara Ryoko) encounters her high school friend Serika (Itaya Yuka) at the hospital by chance. When Nami learns that Serika is terminally ill, she sets out to find the other girls who were part of Sunny, their rambunctious high school crew of best friends. As she tries to set up a reunion, she recalls those bright days of youth that brought them together and the experiences and misunderstandings that eventually sent them down different paths.

Product Information

6 friends from a girl’s high school, call themselves as ‘SUNNY’, enjoying their youth in the 1990’s. At that time, their lives were glowing brightly, girls wearing white loose socks in an unprecedented ‘gyaru’ boom.

After 22 years, the girls grew up as adults, dealing with their own problems. Nami, a girl from ‘SUNNY’, who is now a full-time housewife, is living a life without any inconvenience. One day, Nami accidentally sees her former best friend from ‘SUMMY’, Serika, at the hospital. Nami then finds out that serika is suffering from a terminal cancer. Reunited, Serika asks Nami a favor, saying she wants to meet the 4 other girls from ‘SUNNY’ again before her death, and Nami starts to fulfill Serika’s wish. Members from ‘SUNNY’ are: Nami Serika, Yuko, Shin, Ume, and Nana. Can they all reunite again while Serikais alive?
