YesAsia Editorial Description
Separated for years, iconic Chinese painting Dwelling in the Fushan Mountains is about to be united again in a grand ceremony. Before the ceremony could take place, a British arms dealer steals one half of the painting from a Taiwan museum. Customs agent Xiao Jinhan (Andy Lau) is immediately called in to retrieve the stolen painting just as Japanese smuggler Yamamoto (Tong Dawei) aims to steal the other half from a Zhejiang museum. The half in Zhejiang is protected by Jinhan's insurance investigator wife Yuyan (Zhang Jingchu), who doesn't know her husband's real occupation. With the mysterious Lisa (Lin Chi Ling) playing both sides, who will come out on top and put the painting back together again?

"SWITCH" HAS IT ALL!!! NON-STOP ACTION WITH GUNS BLAZING, BOMBS BLASTING, CARS SMASHING, BABE-ALICIOUS ASSASSINS ON ROLLER-SKATES!!! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?!?
Well, okay, "Switch" may be lacking a few things, like an intelligible plot, any characters one cares about, or a semblance of wit. The story, such as it is, has to do with a multitude of art thieves seeking to steal the two scrolls of a treasured Chinese painting and the efforts of customs agent Andy Lau (looking seriously emaciated; feed this guy!) and his insurance exec wife Zhang Jingchu to protect said painting. Why should you care about the fate of this painting? Trust me, you won't. "Switch" is all about razzle-dazzle stunt work, loud pyrotechnics, inexplicable technologies, clever visual images, and flashy editing. In that, it succeeds. But this movie is all dressed up with nowhere to go. At times, "Switch" becomes unintentionally hilarious, as when Andy shrugs off bullet wounds as if they were mosquito bites, when someone -- for the third time in the movie!!! -- pulls off a rubber mask to reveal their true identity, when the great actress Siqin Gaowa shows up looking like a chubby-cheeked Morticia Adams knock-off, or when Andy screams at a Japanese villain to "Say 'Sorry'" in such heavily accented English that no one could possibly understand him. The best way to watch "Switch" is simply to turn down the sound, turn off the subtitles, and let the stylish images wash over you. Trying to make sense of the story just isn't worth the effort. |

don't bother
this is more an artsy film than a film with substance, it's all over the place that it is not making sense, and Andy Lau is just very 'flat' throughout.. and a lot of 'sub-stories' that isn't relevent. I would suggest don't but this and save the $. |
