Director Kumazawa Naoto and screenwriter Manabe Yuikio, who have worked together on school romances like Close Range Love and Kimi ni Todoke, adapt the 2015 animated film The Anthem of the Heart into a moving live-action youth film about trauma, friendship and healing. High school student Sakagami Takumi (Sexy Zone member Nakajima Kento) gets assigned to the Regional Friendship Exchange Executive Committee to help plan a school event. The other members of the committee are honor student Nito Natsuki (Ishii Anna, Your Lie in April), former baseball team ace Tasaki Daiki (Kanichiro, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store) and Naruse Jun (Yoshine Kyoko, Senpai to Kanojo), a troubled girl who can't speak. Takumi and Natsuki used to date, but their relationship naturally lapsed off due to changes in Takumi's life. Introverted Jun also suffers from a past trauma that led her to shut her words away after her parents' divorce. When the committee is tasked to produce a musical, Jun strives to express through music what she cannot speak out loud.

★ストーリー
高校生3年生の坂上拓実は「地域ふれあい交流会」の実行委員に任命されてしまう。
一緒に任命されたのは、おしゃべりの出来ない少女・成瀬順、彼女は幼い頃、自分の一言で、両親が離婚してしまい、それ以来誰にも心を開かなくなっていた。
その他、優等生の仁藤菜月、野球部の元エース田崎大樹が選ばれた。
実は拓実と菜月は元恋人で、2人は自然消滅した後、お互いに気持を確認できずにいた。
担任の思惑で“ふれ交"の出し物がミュージカルに決定。「ミュージカルは奇跡が起こる」という一言に、勇気を出した順は詞を書くことを決意し、さらに主役に立候補する。
そんな彼女の姿に感化された拓実が曲をつけることに。
順は拓実の優しさに好意を寄せるようになり、菜月は自分の想いを諦め、そして夢を追う順の姿に大樹は好意を寄せ始める。
それぞれ目の前の人には想いを伝えられず、すれ違う4人。
そして、舞台当日「やっぱり歌えない」と順は消えてしまい、拓実は順を探しに行く。
しかし、舞台は、主役不在のまま幕を明ける-
