Set in 1945 and 1980, the Cheng Wen Tang-directed 2015 PTS drama The Best of Youth depicts the dreams and struggles of two generations of Taiwan people. The first half of the series portrays life in the 1940-50s when the Japanese retreated from Taiwan after half a century of colonial rule. Wu Chien He (Days We Stared at the Sun), Jack Yao (I do), Alice Che and Fion Fu (Sun After the Rain) play four young people striving to hold onto their love and beliefs during this era of transition and turmoil. The second half of the series is set in 1980 when the island was rapidly developing but still under authoritarian rule. Austin Lin (Endless Nights in Aurora) plays a politically apathetic youth who looks down on the student activists holding protests on campus, but he falls for a warmhearted, energetic and passionate classmate played by Chang Chia Yu. In this time of imminent change, they must search for freedom and truth on their own terms.

前半段描繪了日本戰敗撤出台灣的年代，李月儒、許明強、葉文淑、林美琴他們用著崇高的理想、純真的信仰與相惜的愛戀，築成這個世代的青春悲喜曲；後半段為民國80尚未解嚴的年代，對政治冷漠的李天明看不起校園裡整天搞抗議的那幫人，但偏偏他遇見了一個熱情善良、衝勁十足的女生單雯麗，他們在亂世中互相扶持，尋找上一代留下的自由與真理。
