Tong Hua, the eminently popular author of hits like Startling By Each Step, Ballad of the Desert and Song in the Clouds, returns to screenwriting once again in The Cage of Love. Set in the last years of the Qing dynasty and the early Republican era, the romance/mystery melodrama follows Jiang Yu (Hawick Lau, Lady & Liar), who at the outset of the story falls in love with the beautiful and kind Wu Cai Hong (Zheng Shuang, Swords of Legend). However, Jiang Yu soon finds that fate has played a cruel trick on him, as he discovers that Cai Hong is the daughter of the man who ruined his father and destroyed his family. Just as the lovers are reeling from this revelation, Cai Hong's father dies under mysterious circumstances. Unsurprisingly, Jiang Yu emerges as a leading suspect in the case...
