Zhang Hanyu pilots a perilous flight in the nail-biting Chinese disaster film The Captain based on the Sichuan Airlines Flight 8633 incident in May 2018. Forty minutes after departure, the Tibet-bound plane experienced sudden technical problems including damage to the windshield in the cockpit, resulting in loss of cabin pressure and inability to communicate with the control tower. The pilots made an emergency landing after flying at low altitude over a mountainous region through a storm.

With Hong Kong director Andrew Lau at the helm, The Captain packs in edge-of-seat thrills and impressive special effects to go along with the inspiring heroics of the pilots and cabin crew. Besides Zhang Hanyu as the captain of the plane, the blockbuster gathers an all-star cast with Oho Ou (Wu Kong) and Du Jiang (The Bravest) as co-pilots and Yolanda Yuan (Call of Heroes), Li Qin (Jade Dynasty) and Crystal Zhang (Legend of the Naga Pearls) as flight attendants. Angelababy, Zhu Yawen, Chen Shu, Guan Xiaotong, Jiao Junyan, Huang Zhizhong, Wu Yue and Li Xian also make cameo appearances in The Captain.
