Every few years, there will be people who attempt to bring Cao Xueqin's Hong Lou Meng to the screen. As a result, we've got numerous film and television versions over the decades. A few years ago, Beijing's BTV announced its plan to make the definitive adaptation of the classical novel for the 21st century audience. They even held a nation-wide talent contest in 2007 as a public audition for the main roles, which eventually went to newcomers Yang Yang (as Jia Baoyu) and Jiang Mengjie (as Lin Daiyu), and rising starlet Michelle Bai (The Myth) as Xue Baochai. The supporting cast includes Yao Di (City of Life and Death) as Wang Xifeng, veteran actress Tsai Chin as Grandma Jia, Kuei Ya Lei as Lady Wang, Xie Linlang as Granny Liu, Xu Huanshan as Jia Zheng, and Chinese Paladin III's Yang Mi as Qingwen.

Under the direction of Fifth Generation filmmaker Li Shaohong (Baober in Love, Return in Glory), the crew painstakingly built 1:1 sets of the Ningguo House, the Rongguo House, and the Grand View Garden in a 300-acre studio lot for the shoot. Besides, Oscar-winning art director Timmy Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) "revolutionized" the wardrobe of the characters, giving this big-budget adaptation a visual style unlike any of the predecessors. Taking years to produce, the latest retelling of The Dream of Red Mansions is due out in summer 2010 to the huge anticipation of the Hong Lou Meng lovers.

　　在古老的南京城裡，有一個男孩口銜寶玉出生，一時成為奇談。他就是榮國府的二少爺—賈寶玉。由於出生特殊，家境顯赫，寶玉受到了眾人的嬌寵，特別得到奶奶，賈母的溺愛。寶玉生性多情，對待身邊的女子溫柔有加，尤其是對姑表妹妹林黛玉更是十分愛憐。

　　寶玉背棄了家族鋪設的功名富貴、榮宗耀祖道路，被家長們看成是一不肖的孽障，只有和他自幼相處的黛玉真正理解他，從不勸說他經營仕途。與封建家庭的矛盾不斷激化，使寶玉終於意識到黛玉才是自己心靈的港灣，愛情終於成為寶、黛兩人的心靈默契和期許。
